The two teams come face to face after they both lost away from home on New Year's Day. Watford created chances with their attacking intent, but could only find the net once. At the other end the defence started badly, with the now usual early goal conceded, and went walkabout as the game progressed. Sheffield were involved in a real battle at Sunderland. A penalty saved after a foul by Luke O'Nien could have given the blades an early lead, but before half-time, an attempted clearance by the same player was put firmly past his keeper for United's only goal of the night.

Both sides will want to get their season back on track, after a Christmas period that has not brought the gift of points they both hoped for. Watford have won one and lost two of their last three games, while United have lost two and drawn one. Just how they will go about that reset will depend on the coaches learning which players are fit to play again after such a short rest period.

Ton will probably make a few changes but we might still lose maybe in a tight game ?

Then fans will complain he picked the wrong team and question his future.

We seem to be in that phase - as well as coughing up early goals.

Hopefully that won’t happen though and it’s a good performance/result to warm everyone up on GT day .

Why do people blame Tom for the early goals, Mark? It baffles me. It is a huge problem, but surely it’s down to the players?

Well he selects the ones who play and, in theory, tells them what to do on the pitch.

Am hoping to be around for this one - missed the QPR game as I was flat in my back sick all day. Although from what I've read, perhaps 'missed' is the wrong word...

To be honest, I'm not exactly confident that we'll get anything out of this one at all - not even a goal.:(

I watched The Utd game on New Year's Day, and they have very speedy players, and not just one or two. Quite what they will do to our not so speedy defenders is worrying.

    Hope you feel better BB!
Well we can help ourselves by getting organised at the back but maybe that suggests a lack of leadership on the pitch ?

I presume Cardiff had the ball from the kick off when they scored after 30 seconds - tbf was a nice finish .

At least they don't have Billy Sharp any more - he used to live up to his name in Championship penalty boxes.

Ironically, I think they replaced him with Daniel Jebbison...<laugh>

Yeah, I think so. They can be coached so far, but the concentration levels and mental discipline seem poor to me.

Yes there is a load of them planned to represent GT eras.

Shame it’s going to be so cold and probably not a great atmosphere.

Not in my opinion. The players have to take responsibility for this. Tom doesn’t control how players react at specific times, and this is a specific time problem. It’s like if we always conceded just before half-time, that would equally be a player issue. He can’t control their levels of concentration at certain points of the game, that has to be them, e.g. Why was Baah looking at his feet when the first QPR goal was scored? That’s down to Baah, not Tom.

That's it! All my dashing around completed. Not shopping, that was done yesterday, so not chasing Mme to get a move on to be back home for the kick-off. No, these were outside jobs, and more rain expected for 2 pm. Slightly warmer here today, so no rush to fire up the wood burner. It is not as warm at the Vic now you sit. You never felt cold in the middle of the old terrace when it was full. There were plenty of seasons, of course when it was never full. Keep warm if you will be there this afternoon.:emoticon-0132-envy:

Afternoon all, sadly the frost has gone and we are outside the snow belt unfortunately although the tiniest bit of snow sends the locals in a panic.
Can't see us getting anything from this but sometimes we surprise ourselve especially against better teams.
    Hopefully we will be entertained.
    Watching on Fawa (I hope)
