Don’t just want to jump on the bandwagon… but harsh and absolutely no need. I met the guy a few weeks back and got the chance to chat for a bit to him. Lovely guy, down to earth, very grounded about life, where he came from and how fortunate he is. Desperately trying to get back into form he was in a few years back and was frustrated about being out of the plans even back then. Wasn’t remotely arrogant or egotistical like a few of ours have been n the past and even when out of the picture like he has been, was proud to be with the club and passing on his life experiences to others.
100% this. There was a player in there somewhere and I think given time and a run in the team he would have worked out. I wish him well and hope he can recapture what he showed at Burnley.
Pleased the really lovely Maxwell has gone back to West Ham. I’d hope for a striker on loan, but definitely someone with a bit of talent in the final third as that’s the most pressing area
It’s almost a 1/3 of our summer signings. With Edward’s already gone on loan (which was needed) just shows what a total disaster last summer was. Think it also shows that RM had a big say in the player signings this summer, and we need a footballing director of football in asap.
RM made them look worse than they were. He never even played Edwards, so we can't judge that one. He played BBD out of position, and barely played Cornet at all. All three players I think could have done better with a more competent manager. What happened with Ugochukwu demonstrates this perfectly.
Same for Taylor...and Ugochukwu! Disasterclass of a summer window regardless of whether some of the players would be okay under a different manager and a different style (as we seem to be seeing now with Ugochukwu) because we signed them to play under Martin and his style, and didn't sack Martin until it was already too late.
Turned 18 at the end of November. Was one of the stand out defender’s at the 2023 U17 euro championship.
U19 captain and centre half. First time we've nabbed someone from a SR network club? Matsuki signed and went to Goztepe on loan, of course. He feels like one we might see in the next year or so
This will be controversial but neither of these 2 transfers were that bad, at least not compared to some of the **** we have seen recently. I'm not saying either worked out, but at £6m and a free transfer, we won't actually lose out on them. They were low risk transfers that didn't pay off - that happens. The shockers are things like £22m and £15m for Sulemana and Onuachu respectively. They are the transfers that not only don't work out, but you lose a **** load of money and make the next 1 or 2 seasons much more difficult as you can't spend. Hopefully we trim the squad and make some decent money this window so we can have a bigger advantage next season.
One eye on the championship next season. Will have 3 highly rated CB in Wood, Edward’s and this guy. That’s without possibly keeping THB
Also increases the chances of being able to get out the comically oversized boot for a certain Mr Stephens
Reads to me more like we need to get rid of a few as our squad is massive. Try and move some players on in the first week then see where we are We shouldn’t be doing much this window anyway, unless someone we really want becomes available. Save the money for the summer/18 months time when we hopefully are building for another PL campaign
Turkish club Trabzonspor want Southamptonstriker Paul Onuachu but are only willing to pay £4.2m. The Saints want £8.3m for the 30-year-old Nigerian. (Gunebakis - in Turkish)
