McCarthy is a good championship 2nd keeper. BBD, Taylor and Fraser could be useful in the championship. Just depends if we want them off the books straight away.
If we are looking at next season then we may aswell sell Dibling, Ramsdale, KWP and Fernandes now I agree that all those listed could be useful in the Champ but, if the plan is instant promotion again, we need to find a bit of a balance and those guys have all proven to be way off PL level
If Bazunu is fit, I'd send him out on loan to the Championship for the rest of the season. Sell KWP if possible (only because we will lose him for nothing in the summer otherwise and this season is done). Loan out Amo-Ameyaw ideally to the championship (should have done that at the start of the season). The ultimate dream - somehow find a forever home for our permanently injured players Stewart and Larios.
I would be holding out to keep one of Dibling or Fernandez. True, but given our recruitment what are the chances of us buying players to get us promoted and compete in the PL? I would say close to zero.
No point selling Fernandes, Dibling or Ramsdale at this stage. They're all on long-term contracts and their ages also mean their value isn't going to depreciate between now and summer The only one you could argue is KWP, but even then we'd be selling to bank £5m now - and if I'm KWP I'm refusing to move now and banking a hefty signing-on fee in the summer, alongside presumably having more options to choose from and then a proper pre-season with the new teammates
Our squad is massive, even if we shed the players I mentioned we’d still have a decent enough squad to give promotion a go. How many full backs have we got? Like 9 or something mental, and even then we’ve played Fraser there this season They managed to sign players last time to get us up, some of the key players were signings we made the summer we went down, so yeah I’d trust them to get some players good enough to come up, provided they appoint a DoF
It might not be realistic to keep hold of Ramsdale, Fernandes and Dibling but we need to try to persuade them to stay if we can. It’s not an impossible idea, we kept KWP. Maybe we need to sell at least one to allow us under the financial restrictions to bring in other players, but we can’t sell all our PL quality players every time we go down or we will never have much of a chance of growing a team back into one that can compete at PL level.
Ramsdale might be the most realistic in a way. We’d want £20m+ probably and not sure how many teams need a keeper and would pay that. His contract is allegedly big so we may just want him off the books for a year for that reason so a loan might be the best bet. Thinking about it for 10 seconds the only team I can think of is Bournemouth who might be interested, don’t think Kepa has been great for them and he’s only on loan anyway. Not sure if there is an obligation to buy him
Can’t believe no one else is talking about this. What the ****. Next week?! How many deals do SR realistically expect to complete when they won’t even know their targets till earliest 7th January. That’s assuming they have their meeting Monday and they nail their targets in one day. What have they been doing?
Absolute joke, it really is, but then I've come to expect very little from those clowns running our club
I think you're taking what Juric said there a little too literally. I read it that he's saying we'll need to sell to buy, not that they haven't even considered who is available.
My Geordie neighbour sent me a link to someone talking about why Newcastle should go for Dibling and it’s obvious that the reporter has even watched him play and is relying on just a few highlights of what he does. He calls him a leader (I wouldn’t) and claims his aggressive approach to winning the ball back has seen him suspended for 5 yellows. I might be wrong but most, if not all of his yellows were for tugging a player back after they had got away not for aggressive tackling. Also he is marketing him as an out and out right winger, which isn’t the case, despite his being used mainly on the right by us. I genuinely think that him going to a bigger team too soon, where the fans have big expectations, would be a bad move for him. We accept his lapses and off days because he’s from our academy but he wouldn’t get that amount of leeway from a lot of fans at other clubs.
