    at the lane over the years and this year....i thought i would send my own respects to the legend that was Socrates,who argubaly played for the best team in the world during the best period of football history for me....the 70's


    rest in peace a very intelligent man....RIP Socrates

    RIP indeed. He played in the World Cup while smoking 60 a day and made the game look easy. One of the greatest of the greatest.

    i admire him more knowing such a fact and enjoyed his drink aswell..but it caught up with him he was young

    It's sad that so many Brazilian greats drink themselves into an early grave - Garrincha being another.

    I loved that Brazilian team that Socrates played in during the 82 World Cup.

    My favourite team of all time other than Spurs was the Brazilian team of 1970. The 82 team were as exciting as the 70 team, but got 'mugged' (self-inflicted I have to say) by Italy. Had they won the tournament and they were the best team by a distance (IMHO) they would have ranked with the 70 team, or at least been very close.

    Think drink was the least of Garrincha's problems... His sexual tendency towards goats was his main flaw...
