Not having that they “clearly deserved” the game sorry. After our goal we were even ahead in xG terms, they had a lot of the ball and did very little with it. Now if you want a “clearly deserved” team who lost that would be Sunderland at Stoke!
Just been reading the comments on the bbc website about the city vs Blackburn game. This was in the comments, perfectly describes city in this moment, loved it… well done sir !!!
Quality of the league this season is utter gash. The squad we had last season would have walked it which makes the situation this season even more galling. Nice to see +3 points on the board though.
I fully agree with this, for all their possession, Blackburn just didn’t show any quality to make it count. There were probably 5 big chances in the game and 4 of them were created by us. The BBC write up describes it as a sucker punch, but really I thought we limited them going forward and had the incisiveness to open them up when we pushed forward.
15-8 shots 60-40% possession 8-3 corners This has been the most undeserved victory in sport since Johnny Fisher beat David Allen.
That highlights reel posted above shows a string of Blackburn chances, then our goal. It really didn’t feel like that during the match, we troubled them a lot perhaps without getting a final shot away. It was a pretty even game I thought, the one really big opening they had was the one Cantwell dragged wide in the second half.
Agree, it felt like that watching on TV too and actually almost as if a city goal was coming. That Cantwell chance also came from nowhere too, it’s wasn’t from buckling under sustained pressure.
Count ourselves lucky the league is so poor this season. If we were in this position in another season we’d probably have no chance of escaping the drop. Plymouth needed 51 points to stay up last season. We don’t even have half of that yet and we’re now in the second half of the season.
One of many problems under TW was we were asking players to do too much. We do seem to have gone back to basics a bit and it won’t always be pretty but it suits our team much more. McLaughlin and Jones would’ve been running down the wing yesterday if TW was in charge. Put them in an organised back 4 defending the penalty box and the results are so different!
The biggest problem with TW was that after a few games, it was obvious that it wasn't going to work with the players he had, yet he persisted and persisted... 8 games effectively wasted for no good reason - total idiotic management and arguably, let his ego/stubbornness/pride put the club in a precarious position and lost him his job.
Most of our luck this season has been bad luck, I'll take further good luck against further workmanlike teams. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
After about 3 or 4 mins Jones set the tone, he beat their big man in the air comfortably Total dominant performance
It was a good win - some brilliant defending when it was needed. If Cantwell's miss had gone in we would have been following a familiar path but it was about time we had a fair share of the luck in a game. Obviously Jones and Macca deservedly earned plaudits but once again we saw lots of hard work and plenty of skill from Puerta, Pedro, Slater, Burstow and the subs. I know Longman gets some criticism on here but since he's come back from injury I think he's done well and it was nice to see him score the sort of chance we've missed so many times this season. So, hard games to come but City won't be push overs if they can maintain this level of commitment.
Jones should keep the armband this week. Last week he was Lg 1 at best, not good enough & not needed here, Superfickle.
The armband turned him back to the level of last season seemingly. He’s not played like that all season
