I kind of fall in the middle when it comes to the Patterson debate. I never look at the teamsheet and worry because he's playing but I also wouldn't be turning down any offer north of £8m or so.

His save percentage is fine, his goals prevented numbers are fine and his distribution is fine. But it's been that way since he broke through and he just hasn't kicked on.

I think a 'big club' would take him because a fee of around £10m is nothing to them, he would help their English quota and he'd be absolutely fine playing in cup and europa/conference league games. Then if he develops into their no.1 then that's great if not they'd probably get at minimum of £5m back for him.

If the money is right and it gives us the opportunity to improve as a club then i'd sell, but I share that opinion about every player we have (I promise I won't talk about it as much as I did in the summer:emoticon-0140-rofl:)

And again, which current goalkeeper commands their box m, comes for crosses like some seem to believe he should be doing?

Gordon had the same criticism, not helped by his price tag.

Do Ederson, Alison command their box because I don't see them coming and claiming crosses like some expect Patto to collect

I’ve not commented on Patterson ability to command the box but all of those you’ve listed do it better, yes. That was an easy one :D

Alison does command his box, it's not just coming for crosses tho. The Swansea goal is an example of not coming off his line quick enough to command his box

It's an area where he isn't kicking on at all

The 3 GKs I mentioned previously all command their box better than Patterson does

Really? They both come for crosses? Can't say I've seen that in the games I've watched, certainly no more than Patto does

yes they do. I’m sure somebody can provide some stats to back that up.

In the championship of the top of my head that Sheff Wed keeper is great at it, as is rushworth at Hull. Cooper at Sheff Utd as well. Even the clown Meslier is quick off his line with punches

I’m seeing people say we need a CM, if all goes well with players returning from injury we’ll already have 7 options there. Neil, Samed, Jobe, Browne, Rigg, Aleksic and Aouchiche. Where would another midfielder fit in?

Swansea was a mistake from 3 outfield players and patto. Jobe balm watching and both our centre half's stood like statutes.

But it's easier to say it's pattos error.

Either way, football I'd about opinion is and I don't agree he doesn't command his box.

    Roll on new years day

Agreed but it’s the “if all goes well” bit that I think is attracting the desire for a CM

I didn't say it wasn't anyone else's fault tho, I was using it as a point to say what I mean by commanding the box

Yes football is all about opinions, all I'm saying is commanding your box doesn't just mean coming for crosses

Yeah makes sense, we don’t know what level Samed will be at, RLB will be reluctant to use Aouchiche and Aleksic and Browne may be delayed in his return.

I think when we are talking about our midfield options and if we need another we should be looking at the individual roles in our setup and which of our players can do that particular job.

We play with what I would call a 6, an 8 and a 10. It's not a natural 10 role but they join the striker in the 442 press and are always the highest midfielder when in possession.

    6- Neil, Samed, Jobe
8- Jobe, Neil, Samed, Browne, Rigg
    10- Rigg, Aouchiche, Aleksic, Jobe

So in my opinion, if we are looking to recruit a midfielder it should be a 10. Rigg plays there however I think he eventually drops deeper as that is where he played for the youth teams. I don't think we should be looking for a deeper midfielder unless Samed is recalled or a future Jobe replacement is available.

Agree there mind. There’s not a player we have who is completely irreplaceable. We need good fees, but we shouldn’t get too attached to any player in truth.

Bit of a tough one as our needs for this season are very different to our potential needs for next season. Wind forward to 25/26 if we fail to get up and it could be said that the 10 role becomes our strongest in terms of bodies. If we brought in a creative 10 plus an all round midfielder with an eye for next season I think that would balance the short and long term.

Yeah it's all about the incoming fee and what we do with it. Recruitment, player development and selling are the 3 most important things for football clubs, especially lower league sides. It's hard for some fans to understand that selling isn't bad but that's just the modern game and the only way we can compete
