I said it a while ago I want to be in the Prem so much again but I love the hussle bussle of the Championship and var free. you won't find a better competitive league in the world. Get loads of stick off my Toon mates who keep saying you're not a good team as you don't play in the Elite league but I always come back with neither are you a good team, as good teams win things and sadly you don't. you just make up the numbers in your so called Elite league so you might as well be in the championship as you win as much as us each season.

If Sunderland get 97 points, I'll eat my hat. I'd need to buy a hat first so i hope that doesn't happen <cheers>

There is a logic to this... what this is based on is that the opponents we still have to play (based on their respective home and away records) are a harder mix of home/away fixtures than those of our rivals - based on first half of season results. We've all played everyone once... but for example we have to go to Sheff U, burnley, watford etc. who have great home records.

So there is A logic to it. My view is they have good records because we haven't stuffed them yet <laugh>.

All the xg predictors and bookies have us as very clear favourites for autos.

I’m not having this until it has been checked, verified and then double verified by Aski <ok>

hahaha and there I was just about to post :emoticon-0140-rofl:

My actual data will have to wait until tomorrow, mainly because I have had a frustrating time with Google Gemini, who took over an hour to provide me the same information that ChatGPT provided in less than a minute.

Championship League Table after 46 games ( As predicted by Google Gemini, based on current league standings after 23 games)

This part is less scientific with the AI, as the table below take into account the AI prediction for every game to be played, however it needs to be recognised that this is still based upon the present table after 23 games. Cannot get either ChatGPT or Gemini, to update the table based on their predicted results per game week, but felt that it was worth posting just for novelty factor.

Has anyone got to 112/113 points? I’m going with “pure” Aski, none of this AI nonsense <cheers>

Honestly I'd trust in AI. With 5 games to go, I have us in 3rd place 9 points behind 2nd place :emoticon-0183-swear:headbang::emoticon-0120-doh:

Sorry LoL, I decided to stay up and work the numbers and I now wish I hadn't. Comfort can be taken that the last 2 seasons I have been wrong though :)

Watch out for Luton coming from nowhere to secure a play off position ;)

As I’m sure Aski will verify These predictors are all based on previous results.

If you do it match by match as some do it will always go for the better team… so you get these ridiculous totals. They can’t predict a worse team to beat a better team, in a one off situation, despite the fact that we know it will happen fairly regularly.

The ones that look at results to date as a whole don’t know who got lucky who had injuries etc.

For LoL’s benefit (as you love a bit of xg <laugh>) The performance based predictor ones are the most credible… Honest <cracker>

All of Aski predictions have Rooneys Plymouth staying up.

    I rest my case.

Just think we tend to play well against the better sides, so don’t tend to take any notice of these prediction tables. The games against the mid table sides worry me more.
We’re top, yes there’ll be hiccups along the way, but I’d rather be where we are, at the halfway mark.

Get your money on that quick, before the odds shorten, when Rooney gets sacked, and they appoint Warnock to keep them up ;)

I go with the very unscientific approach of; we’re at the halfway point of the season so have played every team and we’re top. Replicating that form in the 2nd half of the season and we get promoted. Appreciate that won’t be easy as it sounds due to the difference in our home and away form, injuries, loss of form etc. but it’s a guide if nothing else.

Although of course both predictions by the AI's on how the league table will look, have Plymouth going down. It's the two where the AI's have predicted each individual game and my new method of "let's use last season's results to predict this seasons" that have them staying up ;)

As Wakey will tell you, it's not a prediction, it's a guess, based upon a snapshot of the present league table. As with every season there are twist and turns that it is difficult to predict. We can't say who is going to replace managers, how new signings or injuries are going to affect a club.

Obviously because I've been playing around with the various generally available AI's I wanted to see how they would do, both just at predicting the end of season table as is, and also on a match by match basis. As Milky states and I alluded to in my posts, on a match by match basis, the AI's generally favour those teams presently at the top, thus both predictions they have Sheffield Utd getting 100+ points and not being promoted, which would seem to be fairly unrealistic.

The two attempts by the AI's to just predict a final league table looks more realistic. Whatever statistical method they have used I would imagine still to be fairly basic and I would say there is very little surprises in who they are suggesting will finish where. The majority of those predicted finishes will probably be fairly close, but as always the data set may be stacked so that teams that have had favourable results early on, are deemed to repeat that, when in reality most of the time, that will even itself out

Again even my "guess" at the final league table is based on statistical data, albeit the data set is small, hence it's more of a guess than a prediction. I have us dropping points away in tomorrow's game at Derby, and also in the away game at Oxford, and losing away at Portsmouth. So a total of 2 points from 3 games we should statistically win. It probably has less than 10% chance of being fairly accurate, but slightly better chance than my usual method of just guessing the results :). The actual individual results may not be correct, but in all likelihood we will drop points that even the most sophisticated prediction program running on the fastest computer in the world would predict happening once in a 1000 scenarios

At the end of the day predicting a final league table is as easy as predicting the results of a roulette wheel. You may get some early good results, but there are still too many vagaries to predict long term success. It is however a little bit of fun, and also the reason why so many media sites publish these "predicted" tables, is it generates discussion ;)

Leeds United are top of the Championship at the halfway point.

Over the last 20 seasons the team top at this stage has been automatically promoted 17 times.

    That’s 85% of the time.
