Have made contact, but predictably went into Picaddilly, saw it was cancelled, then looked at her mobile to see the 15 missed calls (the taxi driver was talking apparently).

They were on about sticking her on a bus to Stafford and take it from there ffs! I said bollocks to all that basically, go home and I'll get refunds etc. Plus, get taxi reciepts so we can also claim that back. Don't ****ing forget that bit!!!

She was staying at ours tonight, then a local hotel tomorrow and Sunday. But they won't take the cancellation as it's not with 48 hours!!

So, I've rebooked that for 1st weekend of Feb, when she can try again.

Can't see her ever trying travel over Christmas again though. Which kicks that particular can down the road for another 12 months.

Good those lifeline buttons if they wear them - family member who did have the button on pressed it after a fall, that goes through to the call centre who then call me. I get there, she's on the floor propped up against the door post. Get me up, no I reply, get me up, no the ambulance is on the way, you have stay there until they arrive. Paramedics arrive and diagnose a problem and hospital scans show a broken hip.

You might need a wall mounted one, with a long chord to the floor, so if she falls she might be able to crawl to it somehow. Another option is a blink camera to your mobile phone placed in the main room giving panoramic view, so you can ocassionally check on her - she might not like that, but tell her, wear your button then!

Got some Air b&b vouchers for xmas, so just booked a couple of mini breaks with the fam locally a bit further up in Cornwall.

Won't be doing any big trips this year, the missus is off to Egypt diving again with her sister in April, so we'll just do some local trips and pretend to be tourists for a couple of long weekends.

Did a couple this year too, my daughter loves them. Exploring the 'holiday home' is a highlight for her, then we just do a few woodland walks, go out to a couple of pubs etc. Nothing too taxing and usually within an hour or so drive from home <ok>

I've still got a camera linked to my phone from when my dad had dementia. I've spoken to my old dear about setting it up, but she doesn't want to 'I don't need that!'

Like I said mate, she's got 3 separate options to call for help if she has a fall, the lifeline, her mobile and Alexa. But she is a stubborn old bugger and thinks she knows best.

I'm not going to tear my hair out trying to micro manage her every move. She's a force unto herself !

I got a new phone for Christmas, grateful but seems strange changing after having my Chinese phone for over 3 years and with the same battery ( @BobbyD ) now replaced by a Google pixel 8 pro...got to say the Chinese get a lot of stick at times but the Honor Huawei was probably the best phone and most reliable that I've ever had for a fraction of the cost of past mobiles and replacement. I know there were all these accusations levied at China, but Google have been stealing our data for years.

We've had the camera installed at my Mother-in-laws ... sister-in-law in Cardiff monitors it ... accept it impinges on privacy a bit - but the plus side outweighs that - saves me having to drive 200+ miles unnecessarily for one <laugh>

Just looked them up, Chinese as well. They seem so far ahead of anyone else when it comes to electronics.

I had a Samsung years ago, think they were ok from memory the early ones, and you could at least change the batteries in them, but I'm sure my lad had one of the more modern ones and it was very glitchy. Google pixel the first one I had was nice, but didn't last long at all considering the retail price of it. So im hoping this new one last longer. Defo the Chinese Huawei top of the lot for me, don't care what anyone says and price wise in comparison to top market names it costs peanuts.

Like I said I'll never buy a Samsung again, not because they are bad phones far from it, but because an OPPO has all the same ingredients for a fraction of the price.

If I ever lose all mental capacity I'll have to buy a iPhone

I've never had an apple product, but my kids did, well you have to buy it for your kids, but even my youngest has ditched them now. But I know apple users do swear by their products, I just feel they are getting ripped off personally to wear a badge.
