I also think Howe is terrified of injuries. If Almiron goes and we can't get a replacement over the line then an injury to Murphy and we are back to square pegs in round holes.

I personally think the risk needs to be taken even though the squad is paper thin in places. We end up losing so many on a free or continuously offering 1 year extensions to progressively older players otherwise

100% this is what it is. Wilson is surely now available, we’ve got three CFs for now (including Gordon though he’s wasted there). But if that’s the case then why aren’t we getting a player in or at least lined up?? I think this is where we have needed Mitchell, getting all the right deals lined up so we can ship Almiron and sign, say, Bakayoko at the same time. Here’s hoping anyway.

That said if we can sell Wilson surely that allows us to sign a winger, then still sell Almiron

I'd like to think this is why the Bakayoko links have been so strong recently.

The problem is that we currently aren't the "prime" Premier league destination for a player, so sewing up top players before the window will be harder for us than for one of the trad top 6. There will always be an agent whispering to their client: "Man United could do with a player like you, imagine the salary from them..."

They do but the proof of that has not yet really been seen by agents. Might take a few windows if Ineos are gonna stay super tight.
Could be applied to any of the "big" six

Howe has more or less indicated that we won’t be doing any business again in this window.

Mitchell must have the easiest job in the world.

Yeah, but he would say that wouldn't he?

In honesty though, unless we ship out a couple, I can't see much coming through the door.

I agree. I really think we should be looking at loan players.

But who would be available for loan that improves us?

The balance that needs to be met is for Howe to accept that having players like Wilson, Trippier, Targett and Almiron around just 'in case' isn't right. If we can sell all four does it clear room to bring in Tomori, David or Bakayoko?

Hopefully Mitchell will be given his way. Wasn't it always the case with Mitchell that he expects a youth player or two to come through each season?

Yes, that was from an interview I think when he was at Monaco and he cited a number of players at Spurs/Saints.Probably why we're looking at a contract for Krafth, good pro, solid performer, and won't get in the way of Ashby/Shahar coming through to challenge Livramento. Trippier surely gone in January, you'd imagine.

From the youth set up, Shahar, Munda, Sanusi, Harrison seem most likely but there's also Turner-Cooke, McArthur, A.Murphy and the new Slovenian (?) lad due in. Clearly a lot is already going into the youth side. It's just about getting those 2/3 bodies (GK/RW/RCB) to elevate the first XI.

Howe seemed extremely confident that Isak is going nowhere.

I'm not particularly bothered about signings because the summers not far away. If the right players available at the right price great, but there's some fans that seem to think the clubs entire existence rests on a rw player coming in next month.

It really doesn't... maybe the next 5 years if they get it wrong signing any old ****e.

I think some fans have seen Newcastle fail to sign a right winger for the past five years and would like to see it addressed mate!

I understand, but it really doesn't matter as much in January as some people are making out. I'd rather wait for the right player.

How do you know they've failed? For all we know they still have the same target as in the summer and they had the brains to wait instead of signing someone that's not as good?
