I played football from a very young age. The boys club i played for won the Scottish cup and I managed to avoid being bummed on a regular basis.

No mean feet for a kid from Lanarkshire playing boys club football in those days.

I then went on to play Amatuer, under 21s and junior football mainly for Caldervale in Airdrie.

Refs always gave you instructions even to the point of telling you not to put in a tackle or make a run that put you offside. It was all part and parcel of the game.

Can't believe people who claim to have played the game on a regular basis don't know this tbh.

if a ref tried to tell me when to tackle I would have said "stick to blowing your whistle ya failed PE teacher"

Refs are mute and only converse by whistling and pointing.

The higher up the levels you go, the better the refs get and the better the refs, the more info they give you so far as the rules of the game go.

Hence it’s safe to assume that Ed didn’t get past QP under 9s

 

the rules of the game are different from how to play, there is no rule against making a tackle in a specific area of the pitch, but if I was reffing Celtic and I saw my hero Stinkmelt about to make a stupid tackle I would probably shout "dont do it Carl", and then after he did it anyway I would just say "he got the ball, play on", like a typical referee/fan

its a wonder we have managers at all when the refs are the ones coaching the players at the elite level

 

i was playing in the P7 game when I was in P5 and because I was the best player in that game I got in the school team 2 years early, that was when QP u9s came calling
