It was a strange decision to bring on Buzz, and it's pretty clear NW got it wrong. But he doesn't often get it wrong. I have the same confidence in him as manager as I have in Kenny in goal. Buzz was never really the same after that injury - I think he'll be out on loan after Jan. For me, our midfield went missing in the second half and we lost shape. Fantastic first half but we have to learn to absorb pressure during the whole 90 mins
@tonyfernandes Tony Fernandes All rangers fans . It's good we feeling like this. We are 11th. 16 points. Remember Bolton. We have long way to go but have gone a long way
not happy we just dont no how to hold on to a lead at home we keep missing chance after chance and as the norm we get punished for it when are we going to learn
as a Warnock supporter i think the great man missed a trick yesterday, putting Buzz on was a mistake when i feel the obvious substitution should have been Shawn Derry, WBA were all over us and it was crying out for someone to hold the midfield, Buzz i feel has had his time and its just sad that he never quite full filled his potential, but his placed is one that should be freed up for a January signing.
Well guys....I'm glad I posted this thread, as I think there have been some really good, well thought out posts. I certainly still support NW and think he's the right man for the job, but I stand by my criticism of him yesterday. It's not only that he brought on the wrong player, but he also played him out of position!! Smith was mentioned in a post, but I really don't think he's up to this level either, although I would have preferred him to have come on instead of Buzz. Also, I know a lot of you prefer the change to 4-4-2 and I agree that we have looked a threat at times with it. But 4-4-2 also allows the opposition to pass the ball through you and out-number you in the middle. This happened yesterday, with WBA being a good footballing side, they were able to dominate the midfield for long periods, leaving Faurlin out-numbered, partly because Barton had a poor game and SWP isn't great defensively. Anyway, that should annoy a few more of you!!
I didn't think he needed to make any substitutes yesterday. hindsight is a wonderful thing and any of the subs could have come on and done crap!! Think you are over reacting Col to be fair. my opinion is not to change something that is working. warnock changed it and if Buz had scored a screamer or tap in then Im sure the reaction would have.been different. that's football for you. calm down fella
A bit condescending that Bob. Entitled to my opinion mate and I think NW had a bad day at the office. We can only talk in hindsight as we're discussing what happened after the game has been played!!
Bob you're talking through your arse. Any manager that brings Akos Buzsacky into a Premier League game must have something wrong with him. In fact I'm a bit disappointed with a lot of the guys on this thread only now admitting how useless Buz is when the writing has been on the wall for eons of time. I do have a lot of respect in general for this board's collective football brain but with this one I'm at a loss to see how it took so long for us to reach this consensus (Watford excluded).
Swords...I think the reason for that is that most of us remember how good he was and it's very sad to see such a demise!!
That's hilarious coming from you swords!! I generally agree with Col and like his posts. i never once mentioned that i agreed with the substitution. i said that i wouldn't have changed it. apologies to Col if i sounded condescending but no apologies to swords for his inability to read a post correctly!!
Think my point is that no matter what line of work we are in and no matter what level it be at, we can all make mistakes. ask joey barton. if he had scored and we had won 2-1 then the Buz substitution may not have been mentioned as strongly!
Fair point mate...along with others that have been made on this thread. I'm not an NW hater by any means and I like him as our manager. I just feel he needs to do a bit more from the bench, all be it they are limited options at the moment, when things aren't going right.
Personally, I'd agree, he should have brought Smith on and moved SWP with HH, possibly switching Mackie and Smith around. They were comfortable at that stage handling Betty and HH so time to change it totaly and putting someone short and quick in there, shame DJ isn't back yet because hes better player there than SWP imo. We did need a change of direction at that time so I think he got the Substitution time right (maybe a little earlier) just brought the wrong person on for me. Having said that we didn't lose 2 pts because of the substitution or the disallowed goal but because of the missed chances. I also thought that our movement of the ball in the last third wasn't very good, players weren't creating space for themselves and others by running into the spaces drawing defenders, needs to be worked on. Oh and i'm not a great Cerny fan but he performed well so Kudos to him.
The trouble is Swords that you are so hopeless biased against Buszaky that you constantly devalue your opinion. Like any player he need time on the pitch to play at his peak, Buz hasn’t had it and therefore is not anywhere near his peak. Clearly his touch, which is generally excellent, has suffered which is why he lost that ball, which was not a good pass to him in the first place. For what it is worth, the substitution I was discussing with the guy next to me as to bring on Hill for SWP and push Tarore forwards. That would have enabled us to push forwards quickly but without exposing our defence. I would have brought on Smith before Buz, just because he is a more dependable player, but not one who would produce a flash of genius. He would have given some solidity to the midfield and, as he has a footballing brain, he would have known when to attack and when to hold back.
There has been a lot of good points raised on this thread. I think one of the most important points is that our missed chances cost us yesterday. Having finally watched the match, it was obvious to me that we had several players who did not perform to their full potential. We have such a limited squad and team that when the players we have on the pitch don't perform then we can look very very ordinary. WBA are a decent team. We can't forget that. I am often left confused at decisions that NW makes but who am i to question a Prem manager. He sees the players train every day and knows who is performing and who is not. In fairness i always rated Buz as a decent player with a decent array of passing ability. But he has not played a lot lately and has to be very rusty. Swords, i think your criticism of Buz is a little over the top. He is no world beater thats for sure, but with game time he is a decent player. Gabiddon, SWP, Mackie and Traore have all played little or no football in the last year. It can often take months to regain match fitness and sharpness. My worry for Jan is that we might pick up a few decent/good players but my guess is that they won't have played a whole lot and will also need lots of games to sharpen up. Just my thoughts
