Those 3 chances in the first paragraph you’ve completely exaggerated point blank range header was from about 12 yards with the ball behind him. And the header missed a similar distance (both shots had 0.06xg) the chance against Stoke was about 10 yards and he should’ve done better but it was on the volley from a quick cross not an easy chance but should score. That’s the only big chance he’s missed recently, he’s feeding off half chances and he’s on 5 goals. you’re looking at shots rather than quality of the chance. He’s scoring his xG, maja is outscoring his by only one. Maja has 4 more xG than Wilson and 5 more goals. Shows how dedicated WBA to maja where as we are not. We’re still not giving him good crosses or chances to score. He’s score two dirty tap ins and then barely had another cross. We scored 3 at Swansea and they were two midfielders and a defender, one goal came from Wilson’s run too
Connolly, in his youth, was a superstar. He might find that. What I do see is a player who is better at getting himself in front of the defender and winning to the first ball. Often resulta in free kicks and territory. For me he is a player to keep in and around the squad this year and see if he can earn a new contract.
We're scoring more goals than a team with a better striker ... ... we're a long way from as good as we can be but I'll take that for the time being. We've put all our eggs in one basket before with Ross Stewart and the injury killed us.
They’re chances good strikers score.. Sheff Utd won the ball back in their box and he blasted wide, no defenders anywhere near him.. QPR played through 1 on 1, toepegged wide. But irregardless of the missed chances, as I’ve just said how many balls have been flashed across the box that he’s nowhere near because he’s not gambled that don’t count toward xG? How many times has he tried to shoot instead of making a yard of space and blasting it straight at a defender, giving him next to no xG? xG is determined by the position the striker gets him into when he makes the attempt. Good strikers create space in the box and make the most of these chances, they make their own luck not everything is down to the midfielders to give him 3 yard tap ins every game.
So even more reason to sign another striker surely? Having the option of another decent striker plus Wilson would be better than just having him
We have Mayenda and Connolly has yet to show what he can do ... ... we've scored more than the top team so I'm not desperate for another. Be nice though, just depends if there's anyone available although I can't think of many.
What about the times Isidor has made a front post run and the ball has been sent into the centre over and over. Happens every single game we fail to get the balls in when he’s makes a front post run and he’s dangerous from it
He’s not very often not gambling on crosses mind the balls are very poor atm the chances in those games mentioned isn’t an easy chance bar the Stoke one he missed a chance at qpr and Sheffield United yeah they’re two good chances. 80% of his chances are not because we’re not giving service. How many of manas goals has he made himself this season? Pretty sure they’re all put on a plate for him. feel like we’re just picking at Isidor because of a goal drought he’s still doing everything else for the team and is pretty much as good as a striker at this level gets. id be very surprised if he doesn’t get double digits
Little bit of depressing trivia.. we’d scored the exact same amount of goals at this stage last season, without a striker, and only scored 20 in the remaining 25 matches. Not that I think there’s any chance of that happening again but think it just goes to show how much things can change in a season. Suppose we’ll not really know who’s available until their agent/club start touting them in the window and whether or not it suits us is another question. But I’m starting to get a bit twitchy the closer we get to January without seeing some of our summer signings.
I think it's easy to see how night and day our squad and performances are compared to then though, I wouldn't let statistics worry you in that regard
Although someone on this board said it was this time last year that Michael Beale took over and then obviously Dodds afterwards. That clearly would’ve had an impact on the amount of goals scored in the second half of the season.
I'm also a bit shocked we haven't got a Dutch club we can link with. They're a ferry away. I feel Bennette and Triantis especially would have benefited from playing for a low end Eredivise side on loan. A lot of South Americans/Asians and Aussies end up in Holland to acclimatise.
