Aye I don't rate him and didn't like what he said in an interview about his style of play. It was something along the lines of for him to get to where he wants to go then he needs to show his identity. I'm all for coaches showing their identity however, his job is to set his teams up to win as many points as possible. Inviting teams onto the way he does will never work when you haven't got as good as players as yours opponents.

He should have done better at Swansea imo, and that Southampton squad was ridiculous for the championship last season and they only finished 4th

You'd think so, but what has changed since August? They've been **** all season and seem to have accepted relegation after about 5 games.

I've said before that Martin strikes me as a "project" type manager, but he leaves before seeing the project through to it's end. Both MK Dons and Swansea were basically mid table teams before he got the Southampton job and he's not showing that he's cut out for managing at this level. He's not adapting to Premier League football, just carrying on with the same things week in week out and really should have done better regarding automatic promotion last season with the squad he had agreed his disposal. At this rate he'll destroy any reputation he's built up, because there's really not a huge backlist of a achievement to counter it.

Danny Rohl lined up apparently according to my Southampton mate on WhatsApp. No idea if he’s just guessing or has heard something.

    he used to work there

Edit - apparently some Sun reporter posted it. So feels even less credible now :D

I'm not surprised Martin has been sacked but i'm a bit disappointed.

I am a fan of his. I think he takes a lot of flak for being stubborn with his methods but in reality pretty much every manager is married to their style of play and rarely change from that. I don't like coaches who change game to game, it's why I personally never really took to Neil despite being very grateful for the promotion as I didn't like how we'd go from a possession dominant side one game to a low block long ball team the next, for me that doesn't give your players time to develop. He definitely needs to learn how to manage games though and make better tactical tweaks.

I'm not sure a 'defensive' manager would be doing any better with that squad either, it's comfortably the worst in the league. Look at the recruitment in the summer, Ramsdale who Arsenal let go because he can't play out from the back so how on earth is that a good fit under Martin, 3 of the signings are loans from last season made permanent, 2 forwards brought in who have proven to not be good enough for the PL and a kid from Sporting who wasn't even playing for them last season as they loaned him out. Thats nowhere close to being good enough so in my opinion, the board there need to be looking at themselves first. Pretty sure it's Mowbrays brother in charge of recruitment there.

If worst comes to worst and we are looking for a head coach in the near future, i'd want us to look at him. I think someone with better recruitment is going to get a good coach if they fully buy in to him and recruit well. Don't forget that Brighton approached him in the Summer, they don't make many stupid decisions.

How long until RLB starts being linked to some of these job openings?

it’s reflective of the vulnerability of the profession nowadays.

the lad is only 38 years old, has a premier league promotion on his CV, yet potentially his reputation will have taken such a hit from the last 3-4 months that he might struggle to get another job

I was thinking exactly this earlier. Definitely not yet. For some reason he’s gone completely under the radar in terms of getting any plaudits in the media. All the media tipped us to be mid table at best yet he’s overachieved so far and all the external credit for that seems to be put on Jobe and Rigg.

I think he’d have to get us into playoffs in successive years (or promoted), before even “parachute” clubs looked at him. I do wonder if he would ever be seen as a premier league manager without getting promoted into it.

I actually think Regis would turn down a club like Southampton now anyway, personally. He’s a guy who seems incredibly loyal and focused on developing something and I think he’d would want to see out a year or two with us. And let’s face it if he did he’d be our longest serving manager since Steve Bruce!!

The main risk for me of Regis leaving would be if a top French club came in for him.

Yeah I was thinking about it when I seen someone link Eustace to Wolves.

Hope he continues to fly under the radar.

feels like there’s a lot of gaslighting going on with external people and our performance so far. People tipping us to be near relegation are now acting like we were always going to be up there with the squad we have.

Anyway, I’ve just also noticed it still hasn’t even been a year since Mick Beale was appointed. Will be the one year anniversary on Wednesday. it feels longer ago than that.

going to be a much happier Christmas :D

Fascinated to see what happens regarding Pep and City, never liked him as a bloke but I've always had respect for his methods as results have spoken for themselves.

If he can't turn this terrible form around then he loses all of that credit, it's easy to manage one of the most expensive teams on the planet when it's all going great, if you're clueless when tough times hit then you were never good enough imo.

I just don’t get what these clubs want tbh. Southampton’s squad is awful, nobody is going to come in and save them. If you want to survive then spend the money on decent players and give yourself a fighting chance.
