At the 2012 Paralympics I sat next to a chap and his girlfriend, they put away at least four bottles of plonk in the few hours we were there, and Mrs Fez and I had had a couple of beers too. Anyway as we got up to leave I picked up our rucksack and inadvertently clobbered him with it! I apologised profusely, which he waved away as if to say "de nada", only for Mrs Fez to tread on the girlfriend's foot! Mrs Fez is a big girl, too! On the way back to our hotel Mrs Fez said to me: "You know who that was, don't you?" I stared blankly. "The actor Simon West, Timothy and Prunella's son!" Mortified!!! RIP Timothy, a life well lived!

A "friendly and happy" West Ham academy goalkeeper has died aged 15 after being diagnosed with cancer. Oscar Fairs from Benfleet, Essex, was found to have a rare 7cm (2.8in) ependymoma brain tumour in August 2023. At 15 normally you have a life to look forward to. How very sad.
George Eastham, a member of England's 1966 World Cup-winning squad, has died aged 88. A classy forward who would have played more often for England if so many other gifted players were not available.
One of the leading lights in the reformation of the 'retain and transfer' system - which saw the change from club power to player power in terms of pay & conditions. Probably necessary at the time, but I do wonder what he thought of the eventual outcome - and whether any of today's players with multi-million pound salaries realise that they have him to thank for them. RIP
What a different attitude to his view of the world and those being acted out now. When asked about the greatest challenge the world faces, “I decided that the most serious and universal problem is the growing chasm between the richest and poorest people on earth. . . . In the industrialized world, there is a terrible absence of understanding or concern about those who are enduring lives of despair and hopelessness. We have not yet made the commitment to share with others an appreciable part of our excessive wealth” "We can choose to alleviate suffering. We can choose to work together for peace. We can make these changes – and we must”. A former world leader who took his responsibilities seriously. He well deserves to rest in peace.
