Think the difference is they didn't dig players out in the press on a regular basis and then not be available to discuss improvement. When they did name individuals it would be the exception to the rule to achieve a specific reaction.

Walter by contrast was digging them out on a pretty consistent basis, then apparently not being available for discussion.

I still think harsh words behind closed doors is an accepted part of football.

I have a female friend ( whistle whistle emoji ) who in every message puts an emoji, hearts, kisses and others I will not share publicly. If I asked her why she put them in all the time, I’d never see her again…( 3 crying emojis). Xx emoji…lol( emoji )

I don't remember him digging them out in public, in fact he kept sticking up for them saying they were young and learning, even when Mike White was pressing him and clearly annoying him.

I felt at the time he was a good man for not saying it how it was, which in fact was we were creating lots of chances and no bugger was putting them away. He kept his powder dry right until the end. Some managers would have hung them out to dry and why not, many of us can/could all see what was happening.

If you feel he stuck up for them you clearly missed a lot of his pre and post match interviews.

Yes I missed plenty, feel free to clip me up some of the best bits or just fire some quotes if you don't mind. I'm taking my missus to a restaurant tonight so no rush.

I never had Ann Widdecombe pegged as an emoji user, live and learn. :emoticon-0138-think

Puerta and Jarvis were 2 notables had their attitudes publicly questioned. There were others. Burstow more recently.

It's extremely common in football and it's definitely been effective over the years

Ah OK. Well he had a good point didn't he? All 3 of them have done the square root of nothing so far. I suppose that will be his fault and not theirs though. Same way as he cant be credited for the excellent performances of Hughes, Simons and Pandur.

Its time for them to face reality.

Again, it's one thing in private, it's another thing publicly.

And certainly not on a regular basis.

Ultimately you can defend Walter all you like,.but the reason he's no longer here is because he managed to alienate his players, some of the club staff, the media and the fans in about 3.5 months.

    That's some going.

But yeah, guess it's easier for you to just point your finger at the youth of today being soft.

He may have called a couple out publicly but it was by no stretch a regular thing

Even just twice in 20 games would be comparatively regular if you consider the likes of Warnock or Ferguson would do so once every couple of seasons. If they did it more frequently it would lose it's effect and just piss the squad off.
