    Was interested in this myself so just had a Google

    Jordan is a constitutional monarchy it's king has more power than our royals do, he decides a lot.

    Sharia law is applied only to personal status such as divorce and inheritance

    Whilst the official religion is Islam Jordan also has freedom of religion and extends it to personal freedoms

    In parts I think. But there are a lot more ‘liberal’ laws in Jordan and some other Middle Eastern countries

    This kind of illustrates the point I was trying to make earlier. Sharia law just means religious law, but it’s the application of those laws in practice which vary. If you get an evil dictator enacting sharia law, it’s the evil dictator who’s responsible for the abuse, rather than sharia law itself.
