It was originally the "spanish prisoner" scam. Conmen would contact businessmen, claiming to have a wealthy Spanish royal who needs out of a prison, the money was needed to "bribe the prison guards"

dimwit wealthy people would package money off to the scammers.

My uncle John was invited to my mother's funeral but when he **** on a memorial monument for a forgotten father and tried ****ing his niece after 10 pints of Boddingtons and half a splif he was asked to leave.
