It’s not like Netanyahu is the trailblazer for that, though. Putin was wanted about a year or so before Netanyahu, so you could say Netanyahu is just following Putin’s lead. Disgraceful how Bush and Blair were never pulled in as war criminals. Makes me sick every time I see Blair preaching his **** still and how he’s been knighted is a ****ing disgrace. Hope he burns in hell.
I agree those two, Bush and Blair should have been hauled before the criminal courts. The whole premise of the Iraq war was complete bullshit and millions of people marched in opposition to it because they knew it was BS. As for Putin, you expect that **** from him. Netanyahu is supposed to be a legitimate leader who follows the international rules of law, clearly he doesn't and he's wanted for war crimes. Him then ridiculing the court that would hold him to account for those violations, puts him in the same bracket at Putin and Assad basically.
The Iraq war was bullshit but the blame is Saddam's, he didn't read the room and overplayed his hand one time too many with the weapons inspectors at the wrong time post 9/11. They gave him a break in 91 letting him continue, when they should've fulfilled the promises they made to the Iraqi rebels and toppled him then. Maybe it would've turned out different, but it simply proved what they'd already suspected, the West couldn't be trusted.
Not strange at all, Syrians were celebrating while in the distance bombs were dropping on specific targets, tbph it just discredits you by pretending nowt is happening in such a manner, especially when I know you can work that logic out for yourself. I've always supported the Israeli cause but you come across as some kind of **** when the narrative does not suit you.
Saying that the ICJ has been discredited because Netanyahu has called it anti Semitic is absolutely not the same thing as saying it has been discredited because numerous western powers have indicated that they won't enforce it's warrant against him. Your first version blamed Netanyahu. Your second version blames western powers for lacking gonads. I agree with the second.
Israel confirm they carried out targeted strikes on specific military targets in Syria, I'm shocked I tell yer, shocked.
Point being that they are in cahoots with each other. If western powers had the gonads they would arrest Netanyahu and put him before the ICJ
Anyway, in other bent as **** Bibi news, he’s currently on trial in Israel for fraud, bribery and corruption charges ‘The 75-year-old is accused of accepting tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of cigars and champagne from a billionaire Hollywood producer in exchange for assisting him with personal and business interests, and of promoting advantageous regulation for media moguls in exchange for favourable coverage of himself and his family.’ His defence ‘I don’t like champagne’ Oh well at least this is one court he can’t accuse of being anti semitic https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2024/dec/10/benjamin-netanyahu-court-corruption-trial
The point of the ICJ ruling is that there are places Netanyahu cannot go for fear of being arrested. Including the U.K. apparently, and quite right too imo.
I hope he gets done on these. The problem is he has gaslit swathes of the public to follow him blindly and has spent 20 years stunting the careers of any promising politician who could one day challenge him. Case in point being that the closest thing he currently has to a challenger was someone he couldn't reach, as his popularity was based on his celebrity status and family history in politics, namely Yair Lapid.
Friend of right wing Israeli politicians, Priti Patel was pressing Labour on this recently in the commons. I think the Govt response was that they would follow the due legal course if Netanyahu came to the UK, but they stopped short of of saying that they would arrest him as per the instructions of the ICJ
Didn’t Lapid serve for a short time before that coalition Govt with Naftali Bennett was replaced ? It’s no surprise that Netanyahu has quashed the careers of politicians and journalists who criticise him. He’s not gone quite as far as Putin by disposing of them, but he’s made sure they have no voice as this trial to glean positive media coverage demonstrates.
Well our Prime Minister is a lawyer, so I take him at his word when he says due process would be followed; which would require Netanyahu to be held in custody before being brought before a court. Don’t think he’ll take the risk of coming heresomehow, so it’s all hypothetical.
There is a lot to be said about Israel's electoral system and how it has become a victim of its own strengths, but the long and short of it is you don't need to be a particularly good leader to emerge victorious. You only really need to be slightly better than the runner up and you'll be fine as long as you grant disproportionate representation to your coalition partners. This has been the story of Netanyahu's dominance. Couple of good achievements here, a few smear campaigns there and he's done enough to wriggle his way back into govt. Time after time. The analogy that comes to mind is the story of the two men who are bathing in a forest clearing. They emerge from the lake and hear the terrifying roar of a full grown brown bear. One of the men immediately legs it in the other direction. The second one stops to put his trainers on. 'what are you doing?!' the first man shouts, 'even with trainers you won't outrun a fully grown bear, you're wasting precious time!' 'I don't need to outrun the bear', the second man replies, 'I just need to outrun you.' That's Israeli politics in a nutshell and it suits populist opportunists like Netanyahu to a t.
No one is denying this. Maybe I've lost the plot. I cannot work out what you and Welshie are so bothered about?
Not a fan of countries getting involved and violating the sovereignty of other nations (be it Israel, Russia, China, or the US) but I won't shed too many tears that Syria will have fewer military devices left now.
I wasn't bothered about anything and yes you had lost the plot. All I started out with was suggesting the US were taking the opportunity to hit specific targets in Syria. Some how Israel got brought up in this...I dare suggest your over defensive attitude towards Israel. I've never said a bad word against Israel so I certainly didn't deserve your nonsense reaction. Syria had fallen, of course everyone suddenly wants a piece of the pie, whether that be the US, Israel or Turkey, or any internal factions. I'd actually seen the Syrian's celebrating on the streets, the reporter asked why they were not frightened of the nearby bombs dropped by Israeli planes, the answer because they had just got rid of Assad....who could inflict a far worse torture on Syrian people than anything Israel could throw at them.
Fair enough. That didn't come across in your posts tbh, I might have missed it. In which case it's just Welshie's stance I cannot comprehend.
