I don't think it was staged, it was just a speech that didn't have any tactical nuance or insights in it. It's like the clips we got last season (uh oh) after matches with the players and the manager, it wasn't staged, it was pretty raw emotion, but they put it out because it doesn't give anything away
....and they're nearly all 20 odd year old kids. That's how they are these days (as a generality) All trying to look & act cool. It would do my head in if I was a teacher or whatever, but it is what it is. Wouldn't read anything into it. Decent round of applause at the end.
What, getting pie-eyed? I saw Best play live about three times....Never figured in any of the games....Overrated. He was sort of on the slippery road to oblivion, though.
Giles has such an arrogant look on his face, I’m not sure if he is or it’s just his look, can totally understand why people think he doesn’t want to be here… only time will tell, but he’d better not put another **** tackle in that leads to an own goal again…..nob rash !!!
I don't think it's about 'trying to look cool' I think it's just players sitting there listening to someone who was talking in a relatively reserved way. What did people expect? Players to start whooping and swearing mid-way through his comments? They were just respectfully listening to comments from someone they likely hadn't met before then applauded at the end.
A draw would be a step in the right direction. We just need to move the ball quicker, it seems the opponent's penalty area is all was full of defenders because we have been too slow getting forward, which give forwards little chance of actually getting a ball to feet, and time to get a shot away. I suspect this is one thing he will try to rectify, also our press generally is half-hearted, there needs to be a coordinated press from the forwards to try and win the ball. Looking forward to seeing if there is a new coach effect, fingers crossed there is.
Some great discussion on us on Not the Top 20 both around Selles' appointment and then a deeper dive into our league position and the level of performances. Starts about 30 minutes into their latest episode.
I think he needs to change a lot of the lineup and formation/mentality. I suspect he won’t yet and this will probably be our downfall. Is Jones back? Why did he miss the last game? I’d like to see Burstow given a chance up front, preferably with a strike partner. If one up front, Omur, Palmer and one defensive midfielder in the middle and two natural wingers on the pitch. We need to go for this IMO and surprise Watford.
The issue has been pointed out by some. He’s joined at arguably the worst time. He doesn’t get a week of full training till after the Leeds United game. It’s non stop December. In a way that’s a benefit as it gives him a real chance to rotate the squad a bit and look at all the players given the fast pace of the oncoming games. If he sneaks a win against Watford somehow then it may be a catalyst as some of the fixtures are really winnable this month with a bit of confidence.
I wish he would,I think we would see a big upturn in Omurs performances as they linked up well together when he was here.
The big one for me is that we are 13th for XG for and against. We should be mid table but are impotent at both ends.
Do you have a link to this please Syd. On watching his opening speech to the squad the thing that struck me was how many players were sat in a defensive position with their arms crossed, Drameh and Jones to name a couple. I liked the fact that Coyle showed the respect to stand up to shake his hand, and that Millar was there complete with crutches. However ‘turn up, listen and work hard’ came across to me as his first subtle warning that he will not suffer fools gladly. I have a good feeling about Ruben, our season starts on Wednesday night. UTT.
It's what some have been saying all season, it's largely down to the players not doing their jobs at the right time. Tim didn't and wasn't going to work for a number of reasons, mainly due to his personality. But he can't be blamed for players constantly missing guilt edge chances game after game sometimes multiple times a game or players totally messing up at the back and gifting goals..... hopefully the new guy finds a way of making those mistakes at both ends a thing of the past.
I don't think we'll see a massive change to formation or personnel, but hoping to see a continuing improvement in the tactics used within that formation.
