They're essentially using the chaos to completely destroy the entire established Syrian military infrastructure and set the nation back years. This response was very swift, and considering the rebel groups are apparently funded and armed by Turkey, this is probably a big NATO operation. Israel definitely had prior knowledge.
The leader of this group has been becoming more moderate before this offensive, it's probably how he got his hands on his weapons and ****. His soldiers will be radical, but they're the peasantry and will do as they're instructed, as it has been forever.

I don't think this is accurate at all. The civil war destroyed the Syrian military establishment and set the country back years. The speed of the rebels' takeover is more than ample proof of this. Israel is simply tying up any remaining loose ends and preventing a storyline that wouldn't look out of place in a Tom Clancy novel.
