Genuinely starting to think that it’s the threat of this record that will see Martin sacked, rather than anything else. If we’d made a fist of it, been in the 20s for points and gone down, they’d have probably kept him on (and I probably would’ve been okay with that)

As long as he keeps up this form we should get 12 points, so we should be ok. I’m looking forward to that one win in the next 15 games!

I said this in the summer, he would survive the season unless we were REALLY bad, like Derby record bad. Looks like we are so I doubt he survives the season, how much longer he lasts I would guess end of December

We will be well and truly ****ed by then.

We’re bottom by 4 points. A win and a couple of draws and things start looking much better.

We are effectively 9 points from safety with our goal difference, having played 3 of the 5 teams directly above us at home already. It would take a miracle for us to survive at this point, we would need to be averaging over a point a game, close to 1.5 a game to have a chance. Or to put it into context, from now til the end of the season we would need to average the same points per game as we did in Pochs full season with us when we finished 8th

It could happen of course, but it is 99.9% not going to happen regardless of manager at this point

Yeah I know. So unlikely. But watching saints in the 90’s makes me hope our owners don’t give up that easily. Players and managers fight tooth and nail to stay up until it’s mathematically impossible.

And having a team effectively relegated with less than half a season gone is so boring. People talk about Liverpool already winning the league, it’s boring.

It’s not unusual unfortunately, I know Sheff Utd had 5 points after 14 games last season, not sure if they still were on 5 after 15 like we are but they were effectively relegated at this point last season. They did beat Derbys record with 16 total points if you want some hope to cling to

I get your point about boring, but it is what it is.

Please give examples of the current Southampton team and manager fighting tooth and nail to stay up.

This is what’s so frustrating for me, there seems to be a tacit acceptance by everyone from the board down that we’re relegated. No urgency, no trying out of new tactics, not even the dreaded vote of confidence in the manager.

Us fans are screaming for something to change but we are met with a wall of silence.

Game 16 was a win for Sheffield United (beat Brentford 1-0 at home), so we need to win against Spurs to keep up with their mighty record last season.....

We are currently 1 point behind where Derby were in their record season.

Both had sacked their manager by this point.

Bad news - after last night's defeat we're currently on track for 11 points

Good news - I feel much more confident of 7 more points now Martin has gone

I think we can all accept that we're relegated. Whoever takes over, here are the records we need to avoid:

Fewest PL goals scored in a season: 20 - Derby County (2007/08) 20 - Sheffield United (2020/21)
Fewest PL goals scored at home in a season: 9 - Fulham (2020/21)
Fewest PL goals scored away in a season: 7 - Norwich City (2019/20)
Most PL goals conceded at home in a season: 57 - Sheffield United (2023/24)
Most PL goals conceded away in a season: 59 - Ipswich Town (1994/95 - 42 matches), 55 - Wigan Athletic (2009/10 - 38 matches)
Worst PL goal difference in a season: -69 - Derby County (2007/08) -69 - Sheffield United (2023/24)
Fewest PL clean sheets in a season: 1 - Sheffield United (2023/24)
Fewest PL points in a season: 11 - Derby County (2007/08)

Also, please can one of the "big" teams do us a favour and beat a team not called Southampton 10-0.

Not all of us. There are a few (fool)hardy souls, myself included, who won't accept relegation until it becomes a mathematical certainty.

Remarkable how few of these records are Derby.
