It’s noticeable just how little reaction there has been from our fanbase today after the result. Apathy really is setting in. We are in the bottom 3 of the current form table in L1 - quite an achievement. To be honest, today was extremely boring as a spectacle. I also had Leeds v Derby on at the same time - Leeds played slick & attractive passing football in the face of a gale …it’s perfectly doable but you’ve got to have the right manager & the right players. It also sounds as if there was a bit of friction between our players & our 700 travelling fans at full time. What were the players expecting for their 5 grand plus a week - a conga in the away end ? Miles Leaburn in particular has got a bloody cheek.
Our one and only attempt on goal yesterday saw Docherty feed TC on the right, and from outside the box TC almost cleared the Stand with his shot. That was it … By contrast, it’s worth watching Birmingham’s opening goal at Barnsley yesterday, Jay Stansfield took the ball 25 yards out, turned & controlled it, and smashed it from distance into the roof of the net. That in a nutshell is the difference between a club with grown up owners who are serious about promotion, and a club with a bunch of silly, childish cos-players in charge who are more focused on blagging the nerds & geeks with podcasts. It’s sad really, what we have sunk to as a club. Would the Birmingham fanbase tolerate Methven & Scott ?
Forty years ago this weekend we lost 5-0 at Oxford in front of a crowd of 6k. Did any of you guys go to that one?
If it was home, almost certainly yes That was the season the wheels came off Mark Hulyer’s speedboat.
I remember watching us beat Oxford 2-0 at The Valley when two schoolboys, Konchesky and Parker, played. Great memories.
I was there, amongst other times, when we beat them 2-1, if I'm not mistaken with the score. I think Johnny Robinson got a goal. Our quiet beer afterwards was almost interrupted by the locals looking for Charlton fans
