Agreed, I know we are not playing well and confidence is low, but even so, we are not being blown away by teams. It is just our lack of cutting edge and not scoring that is the main difference.
Their only goal was an own goal and they offered little else going forward. Im not saying either side put in a good performance but we were hardly worse than Blackburn,
On our current league and points we have played 19 games and gained 15 pts - average pts per game - 0.79 attained. If we set a goal of achieving 55 pts to be safe from the drop, then we have 27 games to gain 40 pts. Thus, we need to achive 1.48pts per game to reach safety. A bit of perspective though, last season we achived 7th place with 70 pts from 46 games - 1.52pts per game. So to escape relegation, Selles has to turn this load of bottle-jobs and no marks into promotion challengers to achieve safety. That is a massive turnaround required in a short space of time. If he achives it, he deserves a mahoosive bonus.
Losing Belloumi & Miller is huge. Hughes & Palmer are decent signing as will a match fit Alzate. Walter is the main reason we are in such a ****ing mess. We needed a striker in the summer but they turned us down whilst in the car to the ground. Selles has a huge job instilling confidence into these lads as they look broken. Alzate interview was telling he looks and sounds as I feel.
Looks to me like if any team at the bottom manages to find 10 wins they will stay up assuming theres a standard amount of draws along with the wins.
For me though - that’s working on a system where we don’t know how many points will keep us up. The last two seasons you’ve needed either 45 points or 51 points to stay up - that’s two wins so affects your points per game total in a fair way. The only fact we know is we need more points than 3 teams we are competing against. As it stands - that’s a win and a draw more than five other sides. That sounds achieveable to me.
Fair points made, but we are bottom of the league for very good reasons, we can't keep a clean sheet, we can't score goals and we look devoid of confidence. To be honest I just don't see three worse teams in the league than us at the moment, and I don't see us as being an attractive proposition for incoming signings. Everyone says we need a goalscorers, but they cost money, big wages, bonuses and they will get offers from higher placed clubs without the threat of relegation to league 1 hanging over them. Acun and his 'Brain Team' are going to have to work some magic in the forthcoming window. No can say supporting City is boring and mundane.
I wonder if there is an eagerness to get Tufan and Carvalho back on loan, those 2 would certainly give us something
If you want to go by xG, ours was double theirs. We didn't create loads, but we certainly did come close to scoring on multiple occasions. Blackburn literally didn't have a meaningful shot in the game. There is definitely an underlying problem in our ability to create and score, but we finished 7th last season with that problem still present then. We can, and I think, will climb the table purely off the back of the lift the team has got from not having Walter any more.
Let's be realistic for a min, if and it's a big if that carvalho would be available for loan, there's way more teams in this division that would be more attractive and a better option for him and as for tufan...... Again it's a non starter imo
Yepp, Acca's decision to dispense with LR services, and replace with TW is looking more and more like the catalyst to a disastrous season and a bleak, uncertain future. On a striker. If we're adrift at the bottom on 1/1/25 who the hell would want to come here for a relegation scrap? Plus we don't create much to convert chances to goals. If RS does keep us afloat they should build a statue to him on Queen Vic square. The interview was odd. Some of the RH reporters questions were bizarre in the circumstances.
All this talk of Xg and whatnot, pointless having decent Xg if ya not able to convert, and as I said earlier, this alone is putting pressure on our defence, one mistake is costing us everything
I think we can stay up But blackburn didnt even have to play well They got an early goal Lucky or not And they were able to sit back all game And despite our usual high effort We lose another game Thats the worry for me, if we were playing woeful, its probably easier to change But we constantly have a lot of the ball, but keep getting defeats Even if they are narrow That screams to me a relegation fight and 21st is a success Lowest scorers in the league So when we concede a goal or more per game We set ourselves up to not be able to win games
You could argue we were unlucky in a lot of Walter’s games. Luck means **** all when you’re bottom of the table with the fewest goals scored. The fact we can’t buy a goal isn’t down to luck. We create chances but flub them because all our strikers are ****e and our wingers and midfielders can’t finish either. Kamara had a tap-in and blasted it right at a Blackburn player when he had the entire goal to aim at from close distance. The lack of composure in front of goal is a personnel issue. This team is as bad, if not worse, than the 19/20 squad both in terms of quality and attitude.
Being unlucky is when you have a goal ruled out for offside when it actually wasn’t, or a nailed on penalty appeal not given. Conceding an own goal isn’t unlucky, it’s just poor defending. Likewise hitting the post isn’t unlucky, it’s just a shot off-target.
Thats what i mean Macca is slow, his body doesnt do what it wants him to The own goal happens becasue hes slow to the block so it goes in off him instead of him clearing it It wasnt unlucky Fine margins
Kind of agree but we’ve now got a new manager and a transfer window around the corner. I think the league is so poor this year that it’s not a massive leap to think we will be fine.
