Depends who comes in for them obviously, if any PL team wants them they will want to leave.

Also I’d be very surprised if Martin is in charge next season, I think he’ll be given majority of this season but won’t last til the beginning of the next.

Not really sure what people were expecting him to say in his interview today. He’s always been defensive/arrogant about his style and thinks he’s right. Of course he’d rather lose than compromise playing his way because that might show that he was wrong. Never understood why people thought he was a nice bloke last year when it has been obvious how arrogant he is from about his third game with us

The worse start by any Southampton FC team, in any league, in our entire 139 years of existence. Stick that up your bong and bliss out to it Russell.

Problem is he can churn out the same old **** as he’s asked the same old questions week to week.

They are professionals so they shouldn't be put off by this, but he is notoriously spiky towards any kind of criticism, wonder if they egg shell it to retain access.

Possibly, I’m not sure if someone was more direct to him about results etc he wouldn’t just say the same stuff about all the great things we do and that we are very close/should have more points on the board by now etc

Plus he gets very defensive when questioned about his style so they probably think they’ll lose interview rights or something if they go too far with him

I think we are potentially in a social experiment to see if a 5-1 loss can be normalized.

To be fair he did say from day one he would not change his playing style. This may not be popular but if the refs and VAR bad decisions this season had not gone against us (admittedly we still would've had to see the games out) we could have had around 12 to 13 points which keeps us in the mixed. The thing that does baffle me are the subs. We have lost a lot of points from winning positions with subs made.

Get rid of him now - give the new guy a chance to sort his squad out for next season, and build some momentum for next season. The situation will just fester and get worse otherwise.

Yeah we are approaching the perfect time, coming to the end of a foul run of fixtures and there would just be enough time for a new manager to evaluate the squad before the Winter transfer window.

It doesn't mean it would work though.
What ever we do is a gamble. We had 3 managers last time and that didn't change a thing.

Yep, it depends on getting the right guy this time.

See, I think we are playing better, in terms of movement with and without the ball.

But we also must not kid ourselves, Chelsea still should have scored close to double figures.

Why did they have so so many clear cut chances - the way Numbnuts asks us to dick around at the back.

I think if he cut out that bollocks then even RM would have a better chance of us winning games.

But the reality is he is highly unlikely to change that.

If we didn't have all the injuries and suspensions Chelsea would not have won it so comfortably. They probably would have still won but not by that scoreline.

Its interesting, I know it seems absurd on our points total but I would say we look much more competitive and cohesive in general play when compared to the Jones/Selles part of the last PL season (in most games) which was more like no instruction and every man for himself, but the unforced errors at the back alone are completely nuking us and no matter what anyone at the club says it is almost entirely down to the way RM instructs us to pass at the back.

We're nearly a good team. He's nearly a good manager. But neither of them are going to happen currently.

    This is mental.

The club and the positive supporters do realise when we finish bottom of the table with about 9 points you are going to have the p**s taken out of you by every football supporter you see for the rest of your lives - unless we win the Championship without dropping a point, or win the FA Cup by beating the top six Premiership sides on the way - this season and then 9-0s will be thrown in our faces forever. I mean we count how many minutes a pundit or commentator says 9-0 on the TV already.

Let's pile on more misery to our footballing lives for the sake of Russell's method and plan.

    I give up.

Yeah, like i say IF he would just stop the pissing around at the back bit, i think we could be very good. There were times in the last couple of games especially where we had such great movement.

Trouble is, we all know he wont, and his snarky comments (he has always been like this, even last year - bit of a ****er if you ask me), arent helping matters.

I wouldnt mind someone else taking over keeping the attacking style and just tweaking the back line antics.

Yeah, it's just minor tweaks that we need, which is what's so maddening.

We’re not. The high possession creates that illusion. xG for and against suggests we’re not competitive.
