EXCLUSIVE: O'Neill revolution could cost Sunderland £30m
Martin O’Neill’s revolution at *Sunderland could cost owner Ellis Short in the region of £30million.O’Neill signed a three-year deal worth around £6million yesterday and will officially start work tomorrow.He said: “It’s a very nice feeling to be back in football and to be the manager of *Sunderland. It’s a very big moment for me.“I’d heard about what a good club it was but, coming here, seeing the *stadium and training ground, I’ve been bowled over. It’s absolutely fantastic.“I hope I can help Sunderland to a very successful period. That’s what I’ve come for and that’s my driving ambition.” He will bring in his own staff led by trusted sidekicks Steve Walford and John Robertson as well as other backroom personnel who have been with him at Villa and Celtic. That could add another £2-3m to Short’s bill and then there is there is the question of Steve Bruce’s severance terms, which may be around £3m. On top of that there is O’Neill’s transfer budget for 2012, which will be £15-£20m. O’Neill will watch Sunderland at Wolves today from the directors’ box alongside owner Short and Niall Quinn and his first game in full charge will be the home fixture against Blackburn at the Stadium of Light next Sunday

You meant Black I suspect? The answer is yes. He will follow Bruce into his next job and I predict tonight, Bruce will be back in work before the season is out.

 

I think he will, it seems to be one of those things these days. Who knows O'neil may assess him but it sounds like Black ran the training as Bruce didn't get involved too much. I'd like to think O'Neil will be more hands on. No wonder these deals take time. Sounds like they must have had to take on at least 8 extra staff. We are only 5 points from Villa and Everton in 8th place. A win 2moro takes us to 2 points within 8th.........He has a chance of a decent finish this season. Plus I'm now looking up the table rather than down.

Yes i meant Black. He followed Bruce from Birmingham to Wigan and then to us, so i suspect he'll do exactly the same when Bruce finds a new club.
That club could be Blackburn??

 

The Black Cats faithful will hope O’Neill will bring his backroom team of Steve Walford and John Robertson with him. Cockney boy Walford has been with him through thick and thin, although long-time lieutenant Robertson has indicated he would like to call it a day. The Scot has, however, hinted he would be prepared to work as a part-time consultant. That’s why it is not 100 per cent certain that Bruce’s No.2 Eric Black will follow his former boss out of the exit door. Like O’Neill, Black – who looks after the team today – has strong Celtic connections and would like to work with the ex-Parkhead chief.

 

The air seems fresher today somehow.

 

Heard an interview with Michael Gray on Friday night (5 Live). He was with O'Neill for a short spell at Celtic and reckons he's at the training ground every day. He doesn't always conduct the session himself but you're always aware that he is there. Gray reckons he's the type of manager you want to win for.

Steve Claridge (who was with O'Neill at Leicester) said last week "This is the job he (O'Neill) always really wanted."

I recon Keane will go to Blackburn or even Ipswich within a month & good luck to him.
