A lot of us fans have a massively inflated expectation of performance due to our magnificent start. The thing is, I think it has been mostly down to great momentum in a well-knitted group of players that knew each others' games well. However perhaps it is time to reduce our expectations... ...Our squad ain't strong enough to consistently perform at a top-the-table level. We're overperforming at the top of the Championship. This SQUAD is playoff material at best. When you look at our bench today compared to West Ham's, Cardiff's and many other clubs' benches, you'll realise just how well we've done to be top of the league for so long. It's only natural for us to slip down the table, with Adkins sharing this view - "we want to be in the top 10 come the New Year". If we had a very strong squad like West Ham, that statement simply would not be coming out of Nigel's mouth when top of the league. Fire away bitches
i always thought we were overperforming and we will drop down sooner or later - lose 3 players and squad suddenly looks crap
No No No!! if our squad isn't wrong enough then strength it, oh wait we could have in the loan window but decided not to. In january we need to sign about 5 quality players IMO.
West Ham will be top after 46 games, I have no doubt. But I don't see why we can't finish the best of the rest ( with a few additions in January I might add). Most teams seem to be struggling for consistancy at this stage. We have had two poor results but basically kept our cushion to third.
Time to expectations? For me, no - but that is because my expectations aren't automatic promotion. They started off being a 13th or 14th placed finish, with an outside shot of 10th place, and in the past month they have increased up to a top 6 finish (and I still believe we are capable of just that). But I have never believed we will finish in the top 2, so no I have no expectations to change.
anyone (maynard, sharp), if you offer them a large enough fee for the loan and a large enough fee for the permanent transfer then they will let them go. even if we had got in a hot prospect from a top prem club that would have been good.
I said a few weeks ago I'd be happy with mid-table and I got slated for it. We're a mid-table side who are overachieving. I'd still be ecstatic with a play-off finish.
exactly! some fans have got too carried away, and they be the ones calling for adkins head when we stay in the league next season
OMG we have shown that we have the players and the manager as the boro, Birmingham and forest results show. they are good teams.
I think the mentality of the players will be very important from here on. If confidence drops away and they start doubting themselves then we could fall away quickly. If they remain strong and positive I think we can stay in contention until the end.
because we havent got money to throw away? we only spend what we earn now a days - the way it should be
Because we're not Man City? Cortese has already said he wants to run the club like a business - throwing money around left, right and centre hardly fits that description. Moreover, I'm sure the five year plan to get the Premiership involves us developing and bringing through our own players from the youth system, so that come the end of the five years they'll be there or thereabouts when it comes to playing in the Premiership for us. So buying in loads of players not only goes against this plan, but it also blocks their paths.
the quicker we get to the premiership the more money we will make the more money we can spend. we don't have to break even yet
Norwich finished 2nd last season with a squad that IMO isn't as good as ours. We can always buy another striker or winger in Jan or use some of our academy players. No worries.
And come January, Cortese may change course and agree with you. (I don't think he will, but you never know. After all, being in the top 2 after 25 games is very different to being in the top 2 after 10 games)
