Nice City flag there earlier, looks like it belongs to HATS (Harrogate Area Tigers Supporter) he of the old, and superior, message board. :emoticon-0138-think

I often settle for second best, such a shame that with the likes of Footymad and CI, 606 isn't even that. :emoticon-0138-think

in a t20 between zimbabwe and pakistan earlier today, zimbabwe collapsed from 37/0 to 57 all out. pakistan bowler sufuyan muqeem bowled 2.4 overs, taking five wickets and conceding three runs.
the pakistan openers scored 61 from 33 deliveries for a ten wicket win.
the game had 118 runs in it and lasted 109 balls or 18.1 overs.

the second test of the bangladesh tour of the west indies is currently in the final session of day 4.

    bangladesh 164
    windies 146
    bangladesh 268
windies (needing 287) 142/4 needing to add a bit more than that again

    but that's by the by.

in the bangladesh 1st innings, west indies bowler jayden seales put together the second meanest figures from a test bowler that's sent down 15 or more overs in an innings.

    he bowled 15.5 overs
    of which 10 were maidens
    he conceded 5 runs
    and took 4 wickets

that's an economy rate of 0.31 per over, the meanest anyone's managed since 1977.

the meanest of the lot was from bapu nadkani in a 1964 test between india and england. in england's 1st innings, nadkani bowled 32 overs, 27 of them maidens, and gave away just five runs, an economy rate of 0.15 runs per over. he didn't take any wickets, but his return in the second innings was 2 for 6 off 6 overs and the match was drawn. in the next test between the teams, nadkani had another mean innings, returning 14/11/3/0, though again wicketless. he played 41 tests conceding 1.67 runs per over.

other mean but destructive returns include shane warne's 4 for 8 off 15 overs against new zealand and phil edmonds' 4 for 20 off 34.1, also against new zealand.

seales's efforts gave him an innings average of 1.25 runs per wicket, only matched by the 1965 return of pakistan's pervez sajjad whose 4 for 5 against new zealand came from 12 overs for an economy rate of 0.41.

seales was more generous in the second bangladesh innings with 13/3/46/1.

the windies victory efforts are looking shaky, they are now 161/6 in their chase for 287. the fourth day is around 35 overs from ending and numbers 7 and 8 are batting, west indies won the first test and it looks like they'll lose this one.

following on from jayden seale's first innings bowling figures in the test where bangladesh beat the west indies...

using economy returns for bowlers, these are the most economical test returns in an innings allied with the most wickets taken. there is a minimum number of overs bowled to qualify for the original list; i've tweaked things to get additional figures where athere isn't a minimum number of overs. as you can imagine, many bowlers have send down an over or two without being scored off (even including one g.boycott) and i've added notable ones from fewer overs in brackets.

    1. meanest return with no wickets
    player (country) year o/m/r/w econ
    rg nadkarni (ind) 1964 32.0/27/5/0 econ 0.15
(shujaudin (pak) 1955 9.0/8/1/0 econ 0.11, the lowest non-zero economy of all)

    2. meanest with one wicket taken
    gs sobers (win) 1956 14.0/11/3/1 econ 0.21
    (an hornby (eng) 1879 7/7/0/1 econ 0)

    3. meanest with 2 or 3 wickets
    res wyatt (eng) 1928 13.0/10/4/3 econ 0.30
(richie benaud (aus) 1959 6/3/0/3 econ 0 the most wickets without conceding a run)

    4. meanest with 4 wickets
    jnt seales (win) 2024 15.5/10/5/4 econ 0.31

    5. meanest 5 or 6 wickets
    slv raju (ind) 1990 17.5/12/12/6 econ 0.6
    (erh toshack (aus) 1947 2.3/1/2/5 econ 0.63)
    (jjc lawson (win) 2002 6.5/4/3/6 econ 0.43)

    6. meanest with 7 or 8 wickets
    lr gibbs (win) 1962 53.3/37/38/8 econ 0.71
    (ga lohmann (eng) 1896 9.4/5/7/8 econ 0.85)

    7. meanest with 9 or 10 wickets
    jc laker (eng) 1956 51.2/23/53/10 econ 1.03

england better second time round. after just two days, new zealand face a fourth innings mountain that no team has ever conquered and england may well add more rocks to the pile. that said, new zealand may well have a lot of time to attack the huge required amount. they won't succeed.

root reached 50 in a test innings for the 100th time. only three others had previously done this - ponting and kallis (both 103 times) and former yorkshire player tendulkar (119 times). root will soon be second and, eventually, top.

it is. a lead of 533 after two days while looking to set a target is absurd. england could bat for another day and set them a chase of more than 900 in two days. they'd need to watch the weather, but it's a very unusual situation.

big win for england within three days and the first series win in nz for around 17 years.

yet another 100 for joe root helping england to declare 582 ahead.

stokes wrapped up the nz innings with 3 for 5 in 2.2 overs. harry brook motm. margin of victory 323 runs.

the third and final game of the series starts on friday.

elsewhere, india's first 17 wickets don't quite add up to australia's first ten. there are 8 and a bit sessions left, weather permitting, so that should be a comfortable win for the aussies.

Great win in NZ, Brook's is some player. A bit disappointed, going to be in NZ in the New Year, would have loved to have been there to see these games.

Bowling at the tail was standard......nothing at the stumps just a load of short stuff, a real problem under the stokes captaincy this has been. Getting rolled trying to whack it everywhere.....also standard but luckily we're already 2 nil up.
