    This.

I'll really like to see this given a try.. JUST FOR ONE GAME. I think Swansea at home would be perfect for a 4-3-3 formation.

    Guthrie Tiote Cabaye
    Obertan/Guti Ba Ben Arfa/Guti

There were a couple of duds. I don't mind it as an out ball when he's under pressure, but it's every time he gets the ball. And even if he finds his mark (Ba's head for example) we lose possession because it's a difficult ball to control, it's a low percentage play and completely wastes players like Ben Arfa, Gutierrez, Obertan and Cabaye. That's not how we play now, we have too much creativity to just bypass it. And very few strikers like having to deal with long balls when their back's to goal, Ba would prefer it in behind (like Lovenkrands' pass in the fourth minute) to his feet or whipped in from the wide areas.

Yes but most of the time actually if you watched the game he actually spred it through the whole of the pitch. Sometimes he passed it to the full-backs or wingers but most of all he was looking out wide.. I know what you mean he did have a couple of inaccurate passes but that was towards the end of the match when he was feeling the effects of his box-to-box action. Give the lad a break.. he's been absolutely brilliant IMO since he took Tiote's place. OK long-term Cabaye/Tiote will be our future CM pairing but on current form I think Cabaye should drop out. <ok>

It's still a low percentage play. You're asking Obertan and Simpson (he never goes left) to control a drilled pass, on the run as it dips over their shoulder. It's one of the hardest techniques in football. Our first goal against Everton he produced a lovely pass along the ground to whoever was playing on the right for our first goal. Since then he's just pinged them long.

It was Simpson with the cross, great build up from Guthrie.

Yikes sorry for the typo there.. anyways yeah I know what you mean. Guthrie can do both well. He's a good technical player who's range of passing is class although you're right I think he should pass it more on the deck instead of looking for the longer-cum-hollywood passes haha. <ok>

61 out of 66 passes on target today. He's class.

Exactly this, Cabaye is digging a lot more to help Guthrie out whereas Tiote can cover more ground thus helping Cabaye get forward more or at least play a more positive role.

Still, he's looking great. Finally found his position by the looks of it, after years deputising on the wing to no avail.

he was great today and we can't drop him surly? I think Tiote is needed because today we struggled to tackle at all in midfield.

Guthrie limits cabaye i think. Cabaye and Tiote together are much better. Times chelsea just ran through the middle today and mata was in areas that Tiote would've been. That is what we missed the most today. Saying that today Guthrie was better than Cabaye.

    Cabaye Tiote Guthrie

with Tiote back to help the defence we could get the best out of Cabaye and Guthrie

I agree and at least we know we have cover in that area now. It's just a case of getting a CB and a Striker. Lets just hope we don't sell anyone.

This, with Obertan/Ba/Gutierrez up front, must get a run-out at some point if Tiote recovers.

we'd need Santon so we could have Jonas attacking. Raylor showed he can't cope alone today.

  16. In terms of overall performances, Guthrie has outperformed Cabaye in most of his games so far. However, even thought Guthrie has been playing a bit better, he still doesn't produce the same quality passes as Cabaye and we totally miss Cabaye when he isn't playing.

Cabaye is still getting used to English football. Guthrie has been playing in England for years now.

In time, Cabaye will show us his true form, which IMO was pretty much his game vs Villa when he was outstanding.

Cabaye is currently 'taking one for the team' as has been said in a few other threads. Guthrie is getting the chance to shine as Cabaye is hugely sacrificing his attacking game to play the defensive shield role that Tiote usually does. I barely remember seeing Cabaye in attacking positions since Tiote got injured.

What tiote's injury has done is shown me that if cabaye was to get injured Guthrie could step in and not be as effective but be good enough. Tiote is a bigger miss to us than cabaye. Our pressing was off today. We've been successful because of how well we've pressed this year and today it seemed non existent

    Agree.

The amount of times that Mata, Ramires, Luiz, and Sturridge could canter forward with the ball today was shocking.
