Yes that would be nice but that’s precisely what the other team want …

… although Sheff Utd rarely had control, they couldn’t have complained if they’d lost.

Of course. Let's hope we can sustain over 90 mins on Saturday and return to a game like Oxford at home was.

He’s building a team guaranteed to be relegated next season …

… they won’t attract anyone who wants to play football, that’s for sure.

Last night I thought we made changes at roughly the ‘right’ time (perhaps 5 mins late) and made what I felt at the time were the ‘right’ subs (going to a back 4 and bringing on a powerful runner up top). Unfortunately, while it helped stem the slight increase in pressure we were seeing at the time, it also hurt us in an attacking sense. When the goal went in we didn’t have the platform to go back at them.

Oxford was a rarity because they were so weak and passive …

… realistically having total control, in this league, won’t happen often for any team.

The main lesson for me on reflection is we must strike while on top. (admittedly a missed penalty doesn't help). Although we perhaps did flag last 20 that wouldn't have mattered if we had maximised our periods of being on top.

Concerns about Roberts - he is really struggling at the moment

We have had too many red cards which impacts continuity

Interestingly those at the match seem to have a much more positive feel.

And yes I am disappointed. The Coventry 2nd half has definitely stalled us.

Regis Le Bris explains tactics in Sunderland's defeat at Bramall Lane

    upload_2024-11-30_10-4-9.jpeg

    https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...ains-tactics-sunderlands-defeat-bramall-lane/

REGIS LE BRIS was adamant he did not want his Sunderland side to change their playing style – even though they found themselves with ten men for the second half of last night’s 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United.…

“We kept a 4-4-1, then when we were in possession, we went to a 3-1-4-1,” said the Sunderland boss. “It was really a case of trying to keep the same structure we had previously with 11 players.

“It wasn’t the same control on the ball because probably the references were a little bit different, but I thought we managed that situation okay.”

Le Bris has stuck to his principles throughout his Sunderland reign, and did not want the departure of Mepham to result in a wholesale change of approach.

“I think it was a good option because that is our identity and we don’t want to play a different type of football or another style of play,” he said. “I think we were consistent, even though we had one man less.

“The players adapted very well, I think, although we have to accept there was a bit of a lack of impact in the final third. We have to be able to finish things off.”

I think he’s going to want us to thump them next week judging by his post match presser

I agree. Not total control but we must stop losing control in the majority of second Half's we play.

Good. The big 3 is vital next week. Is it another home just after it too? 2 home wins in close succession would be ideal.

Thinking about it although incredibly frustrating at the time Jobes suspension has probably done him a favour. He went a month without playing a competitive game great reset for him heading into the busy December january schedule.

The flip side is we may well have had 3 or 4 more points if he had played those games.

3 home games in the next 4. 12 points from those 4 is ideal but 2/3 home wins is ideal. Anywhere from 8 points is a good return imo

Well I've slept on it and have not changed my view one iota
We played some nice football, restricted the league leaders and I thought they became a bit ragged as they pushed to try and win the game. I take it as a compliment that their only response to our style of play was effectively rough house tactics. We have players still to come in and we can get better. I'm not sure Sheffield United can, though I expect them to continue to grind out results.
All this talk about falling away in the last 20 minutes, I'd expect home teams to at least make an effort to try and win the game and come at us. That perhaps is were we need to be a little bit clever and catch teams on the break as they over commit.
Hopefully as we get players back we push on again.
I really am enjoying watching these lads trying to play football.

A pessimist would Say “not won in the last 6” and an optimist would say “lost 1 in 11”!

I prefer optimism personally. Makes life much nicer

Watson was blowing out his arse, he’d already stopped being effective by the time he was taken off.

As was Rigg. We need to give the serb some trust or use AA more effectively.

AA also takes great corners. Something we have been absolutely abysmal at for some time.
