When another manager compliments ours after a loss I see it as a mark of disgrace. Like a condescending older sibling or cousin ruffling your hair and saying ‘At least you tried’. Martin should be feeling that way too, but unfortunately it’s probably going straight in the **** bank.
From the Swansea forum. Definitely doesn't sound like the Premier Leagues most "nearly there" manager....
I agree with some of this. He is inflexible and making all those mistakes. However, I strongly disagree with one part: I sincerely doubt he would do much better with a better squad. His teams are way too open. He can’t coach a defence or set up a midfield which is needed to be a top, top side. I think this is by far the highest he will ever manage.
So how do you explain last season? We had undoubtedly one of the top squads in the league and he got us promoted. I agree with your previous comments that a better manager/different style would’ve got us top 2 (and said it multiple times last season) but he still ultimately had a successful season and got plaudits because of it. I feel that would be the same if he was managing like a Spurs or something. The key is it needs to be a side who is better than the majority of the league Whether he’ll ever manage higher than us, you’re probably right. I’d imagine a top end Champ team would look at what’s happened to us this season and stay away and he’s not getting a PL job unless some owner is completely enamoured with his style and thinks he can make it work with better players. Which is exactly what Wilcox said when we hired Martin
I’m late to the party but I’m now watching Ted Lasso. I can see some similarities with RM, especially when, in the first series, Ted took his best player (Jamie Tartt) to one side during training and told him that he should have passed the ball, despite him having beaten a player and scored. Playing a false 9 in the last and biggest game of the season (series 2) despite never having used it before. Being far too friendly with the players. Have Ted and Russ ever been seen in the same room together?
All of us football fans who loved the championship season, loathe VAR and don't give a **** about the premier league - how did you think we were going to get back there. Losing every game is the only way sadly. Suck it up is my advice. If we get relegated, look forward to next season because if by a miracle we change and stay up a la Mark Hughes we only have more misery to look forward to.
Just heard on the grapevine that SR are going to let the club sink this season, then sweep up a massive pay day from the sale of Dibling, THB, Fernandes, Ramsdale and KWP, followed by a quick sell up for peanuts and move on to find another unsuspecting club to get rich on.
We won't make any money on Ramsdale, kwp will be a free agent. Where do people get these stories from?
Also debatable we’d make money on Fernandes or THB if we continue as we are. Seens a solid business model though
Dragan Šolak has invested around £163 million of his own money in Southampton FC to date. That’s just to buy the club, increase his share, and a further £15 million to help with running costs. It doesn’t include transfer fees, in or out. I can’t see him selling the club at a loss.
He's going absolutely no where. Time to move the hostility in matches from him to SR. https://x.com/AlfieHouseEcho/status/1862129564224242114?s=19
