Someone who doesn’t sound like this from a Sheff Utd fan… If we had seen some progression during his tenure then I would be more inclined to agree but it was ponderous, laborious, indecisive ‘possession’ play, without any real cutting edge or purpose that allowed pretty average / poor championship sides to turn us over fairly easily. …sound familiar
…and another in reference to Jokanovic We have reverted to Jokanovic-ball of slow passing in non threatening areas until we misplace it and get in trouble It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see its not working!! For the love of god try something different!
Let’s be honest, all possession teams get labeled similar as it’s the very nature of a possession based team. You can’t just pass around the opposition in one move and score, you have to keep the ball, and often that means going sideways and backwards which becomes ponderous, laborious, etc.
More red flags for me… Jokanovic picked a formation and system and hoped to bring in players to utilise it. He didn't get them and tried fitting square pegs into round holes to force his formation and system to work. It didn't and he was sacked as a result. Hecky didn't do anything unique, clever or innovative. He just deployed Wilder's formation and tactics as he had the players to do this.
For balance some Sheff Utd fans said he was promised players by their owner which didn’t materialise and was ‘shafted’ to an extent.
You could dig up Robins failure at Huddersfield as a similar comparison. Almost any experienced manager has at least one failure and dismissal on his CV. Walter failed 3 times to get the club with the biggest budget out of the German second division and got sacked. Brucey had failures, Brownie had a failure at Derby etc...
At least Tan won't be around to check the DNA of applicants. As the man on the ground in the UK I hold him responsible for this mess more than anyone else yet he seems to avoid all the flak flying around. What did he hope to achieve with his Hull City Council meetings and what's his legacy? Who's the main man over here in the UK now?
Did someone mention Jim Rodwell being at the game the other night? He would make a good DOF alongside any manager we bring in. Didn't he work closely with Adkins when he was here?
Not only that, whether you play a possession of direct style, if you're not very good at it it's still going to be **** to watch, either way. I've seen plenty of ****, laborious, one dimensional, boring and uninspiring hoofball in my time. Just like I've seen some exciting direct play. Sometimes it's less about philosophy and more about execution .
Much more than 18 months is the exception rather than the rule for managers these days it seems. Across the board. They either do a decent job and move on up, or they don't and get sacked.
Yes he’s been mentioned, he was here for a period when Acun took over. I don’t remember him working with Adkins
I asked the other day what our tactics should be , virtually no ideas - yet tons of ideas for the last 3 months on why we were sh**, . What style and team formation do we want and what type of manager ?, ruthless , friendly , tactical genius , old style , young new style if there is one . The whole league is based on pedestrian football wouldn’t it be great if we could play a more direct positive style - oh hang on !!!
I gave you this last Friday. I hope but very much doubt we have gone back to old school football. Defenders practicing tackles and headers in the box to stop the other side scoring, aided by panda who does the same but has the advantage of being able to use his hands. Forwards practicing kicking the ball at/into the goal. If the ball is too high to kick use your head. Midfielders doing a bit of both, if we're attacking move up, if defending come back.
