My shift pattern at the moment is 2 days followed by 2 nights then 4 days off. The days are painful. 12 hour shifts coupled with a train journey of 45 mins each way then travel to and from the train station. Means I’m doing around 15 hours or so a day. Only another year or so then I get the opportunity to move on.

For many years I was 4 on 6 off, (2 days 2 nights, 12 hours) pre covid.

Then mon to thur nights, 9pm to 6am for 18 months.
    Now 3 on 4 off 12hr nights.

I won't bore you with the details of how bad nights have affected me over the last years but I started this thread to highlight how things like this etc can get to you. Especially when Sunderland are losing. Or even drawing lately <laugh>

I did 4 on 4 off years ago, early 20's
Hated them. Always in weekends while you're mates out on the lash. <laugh>
Good luck getting off them :emoticon-0148-yes:

I’ve been doing some kind of shift work since my late 20s and I’m now 58. Most people know I’m a cop so it’s part and parcel of the job. Hopefully be in a position to retire in four years so I’ll endure shift work in some form until then.

Many many years ago, when I was a lad, I used to work permanent night shift at Tudor Crisps in Peterlee. It was Monday to Friday so finished at 6 on a Saturday morning, got to bed about 7. When the lads were at home my mate would come and get me up to get through the town for opening time at The Borough (10:30)

I must have slept in every night club in Sunderland!

Unfortunately i have broken service otherwise I could of gone covid with a final salary and them topping pensions up then
Couple that with letting eldest daughter move in me dads house rent free <doh> <laugh>

    I'm 57 , I want to go in say 5 years.
The money I'll lose changing shifts over them 5 is around £25k which could add to the pot, but I can't live another 5 years like this.
Might not last another 5 years if I carry on <laugh>

There's a chance of 4 on 6 off returning next year, and I could possibly move to another section that works them
But other circumstances as well as nights have forced my hand.
I'm looking forward to seeing out my years with a modicum of normality and bed every night lol.
I'll probably struggle getting up at 05:15 for five days on the morning shifts mind <laugh>

Forget about the money marra, your life is more important, I get up at 5 every morning to walk my dogs, no alarm, the good thing about that is if I am still up after 9 on a night it feels like I am out clubbing :) You will get used to it

    A mate called round yesterday.
(Bellend had a sore throat and full of cold FFS )
Talking about nights. He's on three shifts now but did 2 years of 5 nights. Mon to Fri 12hrs. He ended up with a bleed on the brain, tablets for the rest of his life and depression he's now on happy tablets for .
    Fook that.

Try not to "just get through it" and let it build up mate.

    Plymouth
Fooking hell, I hope she made that worth your while <laugh>
My mrs used to call me victor meldrew <laugh>

We didn't get on well for long periods but it was all down to stress, tiredness etc through work and other things for both of us.
I couldn't cope with her job. She has had her hours reduced now.
