This will be the same old **** and I'll be surprised if Newcastle get more than a point. What's everyone's thoughts on this one ?
On paper we should be probably edging this game. But last night knocks the stuffing out of this group of players. Lose it and I fear for our season.
when I looked at west hams 11 I thought they had better players overall. Newcastles bench looked too strong...Howe just picks the same side regardless of the opponent and goes with pre planned subs no matter what occurs. This game will be no different, he'll not play the best 11 available and if it doesn’t work from the start we'll get beat. Newcastle have Guimaraes and Isak the others are not that good... Gordon is looking dreadful week in week out...why not give Barnes a start? 3 years in still using Murphy longstaff and any other good lads he can drag along unnecessarily.... Yesterday simply swapping Tonali for Longstaff and Barnes for Gordon might have made sense ? His changes diluted the side. This game seems huge now with Liverpool after.... could this be the point where more people start seeing a need for change?
I think the problem is no plan b against teams that sit back and hit us on the break. We are devoid of ideas and don’t create clear cut chances against a team like West Ham and like other teams of a similar style. 18 shots and only 2 on target. And yes the same tactic and formation just doesn’t work against every team in the league. Ironically the pressure is on both managers in this game. If we lose this and Liverpool we are in a bit of a pickle.
Tonali 50 million Barnes 45 million They can't get this side in ? What is the point in yhese owners buying these players if they aren't better than what the manager is basically implying we've already got with his selections. If he brings them on he dilutes the side around them with other changes. The side had some strengths 1. Trippier and Almiron on the right linked up so he's broken that up. 2. Willock and Joelinton on the left linked up nicely , so he's broken that up. 3. Joelinton centrally worked nicely, so he's made him a winger and changed that. 4. Gordon worked nicely on the left, so he's dragging him all over the pitch until his confidence seems shot. What the hell is going on? Just get back to what works and make sensible changes based on performances.

At some point people will realise Howe's just the new Pardew. One trick pony which is fine when it works, but too reliant on individual performances and out-running the opposition. No clue how to deal with defensive teams, and a staunch loyalty to bang average try-hards. He's got Tonali - clearly not a Howe purchase, by the way - and instead of looking at his squad and thinking "hmmm, I could have a great double-pivot here with two top class midfielders" he's gone "erm, let's see if Tonali can do what Longstaff does". It's 4-3-3, endlessly, on repeat. And if Plan B is 4-4-****ing-2 then God help us. I mention Pardew who shifted either Ba or Cisse out of position, and it didn't work repeatedly. By the way, your summary isn't quite right: 1. That **** worked for about 6 games. Howe actually persevered with it - and the Almiron/Bruno "1-2" - for WAY too long. 2. Yes, it did. And it worked recently. The issue is - how are we relying on the same thing after more than two years?! 3. Joelinton would work far better as a hold up striker, rotating with Isak. Just get rid of Wilson, and play a different midfield. 4. You mean on the right? Just an FYI - we are at our lowest position after this many games since the 21/22 season. I mean, that's a pretty ****ing low bar, to be fair, and aren't likely to be 19th any time soon, but still we are slowly going backwards.
The return of Burn. How **** are we that Burn's return is even a thing! Nice that we'll have Lloyd Kelly on £!50k A WEEK for the next 5 years, great work Eddie.
Considering we have Bottman, Lascells, Krafth, Targett all not available due to injuries I don't know who else you could have put in answers ??
If Pardew or Bruce were given this amount of money the fans would be saying something very different I'm sure. They currently still think we're going to challenge the top 6, but when that evaporates Howe will be in trouble just like the others. Nothing Howe has done on any of the points I raised has been better that what was already in place mind. I keep hearing about consistency ? The truth is we've been consistently poor all season... only 3 clubs have less goals, we've got about 1 goal in 70 from corners, free kicks are awful and they're a soft touch on the counter. The amount of times I've heard our fans saying clubs 'like' Brighton, Bournemouth, Fulham and now West Ham ! The truth is Newcastle are just a club like them.. there's an over inflated opinion on our players in the main and vice versa for other sides. Seriously what is Newcastle's strength apart from putting in the hard yards ? I don't know if anyone else is noticing how fed up our players all look, but why wouldn't they? They are being used like rats on a wheel. On the evidence I'd say Howe has simply ridden a wave of positivity and money and now the real situation is upon us. Perhaps I'm completely wrong and he'll turn Nufc into a good side... we'll see.
Really not very, he played in the 3 games in a row we won, and when he didn't play we lost. Anyway this is a better thread that the other Wah Wah match day thread, so I'll post here - Palace are bad this season, won one league game all season, we have a good chance.
Start by dropping Pope longstaff and Gordon and go from there... Burn starting is a certainty after Kelly's unfortunately poor performance. Pope has the most useless distribution anywhere in the world... he's lost confidence and can't make a save at the moment... very odd was so reliable for a time Longstaff I don't want to even explain this anymore but his performance warrants being dropped. Gordon hasn't looked right all season and simply deserves to be dropped. Not having a major go, but changes are required and others deserve a chance.
I absolutely agree except with Gordon I'd stick him back on the right as punishment! 4-2-3-1 (never gonna happen!!) Odysseas Tino - Schar - Burn - Lewis Tonali - Bruno Gordon - Isak - Barnes Joelinton
I understand the stats, mate, but he's been roasted multiple times last season and a few times this, can't head for **** and as he enters his 33rd year should not be a key missing component from a top-10 PL defence. He was a utility sub at Brighton. That said, Kelly looks like a poor Championship player. On £150k a week.
has played more than 3 games...in fact he's played in 3 of the 4 defeats. It's meaningless using these type of stat's as indicators though... it's different sides vs different sides.
We have two match day threads? Why? I get the non bedwetters can’t accept what’s in front of their eyes but surely we can all be friends regardless of our opinions. If we lose this game and the Liverpool game where does that leave Howe and our takeover. We would be bottom half and then some.
I think it’s fair to question the situation yes. The people who don’t want to question are either very naive or insane. I think it’s healthy to challenge whether or not we are performing at the levels to which we have either established or given the context of money spent we should be doing better. I still maintain that it’s early in the season and that this next 4-6 games makes it one way or another. Howe knows he’s on borrowed time. When and it’s not an if he goes. Who do we get that takes us to the next level. And that’s if that’s what we want/
