It was Richard Gardham's opinion, personally I don't agree with him and I think Gareth Roberts words were nearer the truth. Even more so in this day and age when watching professional sport is a lot dearer then in was in the 1980's. If fans chose which winning or more entertaining team/sport to watch in those days when it was about £1 to get in, it surely must have a huge effect today in cities like Hull where there is a choice?
Thankyou for that TT . I was trying to be ironic/ sarcastic with my question as I know what numbers went to the Boulevard mid 70 's . I know because occasionally I would be there . Incredibly my first match at Fc was the game you mentioned in an earlier post when the match was abandoned at half time because Fc had no clean kit for the second half . Think the game was against Bramley about 1976 and Fc were losing badly. Big mouth Peter Fox was the coach of the team Fc were playing and was not happy about the match being abandoned. Of course Fc won the rearranged match . Whenever I attended crowds were about 3,000 and increased alot during the 1979 season when they won all league matches in Division 2 .I had been a regular at BP from 1970 and had a season pass for City before seeing the inside of the Boulevard. When it comes to it Fc fans should be thankful for the Hull Vikings who kept the club going during the Mid 70's.
Never went to speedway but did do. The greyhound racing at both Craven Park and Boulevard . Shame we don't have both now .
One of my friends (yes I do have them), used to run a couple of dogs at Craven Park - he used to te me about all the fiddles such as not feeding them then letting them have massive meal before a race so it didn't win etc - his must have had a massive meal before every race because they never won
Len Beecroft the bookie used to run his own dogs!! He used to give me a little wink when they were going to run! Still didn’t go out with him
The Speedway was brilliant. Ian Thomas, rest his soul, did a fantastic job. 3 world champions riding for us plus Kelly Moran and Denis Sigalos were fabulously talented riders. I sometimes wonder if FC would be here now if it hadn’t been for Vikings

I used to go to Shawfield dogs on a regular basis, knew a few lads from Glasgow and Falkirk way who trained dogs and were always in the know. Fearless Freddie Williams the bookie had a pitch there.Stood his ground on his prized pitch at Cheltenham and took on JP McManus for massive bets yet scrubbed the board clean when a good thing was getting hammered at Shawfield.Left £8 million to Julie and his other Daughter in his will, wily old fox..
