I don't know if I subscribe to a new manager being tainted if we go down. I think there'd be a lot of good will toward a new incumbent if they clearly improved how we play.

Possibly, it’s the “improved how we play” bit that I find hard to see with the start we’ve made and the confidence through the floor. Sure we might play better than Martinball but results are likely to continue to be poor, and that over circa 25 games is enough for fans to want change before the start of next season.

Those guys you’ve listed might all end up being a good fit if they came in next summer with a clean slate and with one of the better sides in the Championship. Whether they are a good fit coming into a side that is basically relegated by November is a whole different matter

Here’s becoming a bit of a ****er imo. Todays comments will not help his position with fan base & if they turn, in mass, SR will have no option. I don’t even think he’s a “nice bloke” now.

Agreed. Say someone came in now and we still finished bottom but got around the 20 point mark and we were better to watch I think people would be happy for him to stay on.

That sarcastic clapping has pissed me off royally I'm not gonna lie. I know he thinks it's great fun but for the fans it's ****ing horrific watching a team try and play it out constantly when they're clearly not capable at this level.

I'm gonna give him dogs abuse at Brighton on Friday.

It depends on the degree of improvement I suppose. I think we’re as good as down, and I’m resigned to us finishing on about 10-15 points maximum if RM stays.

If, however, a new manager could get us up to around the 30 point mark from where we are now, that would still mean relegation, but we would have a good few wins under our belt which would give us momentum going into the promotion fight next season.

Edit: Libby has made a similar point above, which I agree with, although I would hope a new manager could get more than 16 points from 26 games.

I may not be remembering correctly, but did you say when you were chatting to the absolute chancers in charge of this disgrace at the Etihad they seemed open to moving RM on? What do you think has changed?

Don't forget, the SR logic of "a failed manager will have something to prove" (or something along those lines) so suspect that's their thinking with RM to lead us back to promotion next season ...

I think we should keep him until the end of the season now tbh.

    They’ve left it too late.

Any manager coming in will just taint the new guy. Better a fresh start in the championship imo.
Sad times that we’re relegated already

Would be a suicidal move on so many counts imho.
Fans will turn on RM soon. Lots more including myself, waking up to his arrogant comments and his self indulgence
St Marys will become toxic as did under the Jones, Seles era, taking us back to exactly where we were 18 months ago.
Fans will stop going, which will have a big commercial effect.
So for me, it’s not too late to sack him for so many reasons, as it’s now not just about the here and now. But get rid of him now.

They were open to it, but it seems nobody wanted it that was a feasible option in their mind. Plus we beat Everton. Had that not happened I'm pretty sure he'd have been turfed out after Wolves.

Your guess is as good as mine mate. We've dug ourselves a tricky grave here. I think if the crowd turn, they may not.

I will reiterate though, they were both very much "we need to try and stay up" - that was a critical point. So, well...yeah...over to them, cos we're not staying up with Russ.

When the crowd cheered after McCarthy booted it long, he turned round and started sarcastically clapping the fans.
