I personally never ever thought that young people were out of work, so who are these 1 million people. And regardless of if they are young, I thought you didn't get any benefits unless you were actively looking for work, which was checked by a work coach, any refusal to look for work, meant no benefits or a reduction in benefits, which at best were a pittance anyway. I can't even say I see youngsters loitering about like there use to be decades ago.

I've noted also the figures were taken between July and September, the very time where kids would be migrating from school to uni or the workplace, surely not the best time to calculate these numbers, are we just fabricating a problem here?

I'd still be interested to know where they got the data for one million kids....and are all these kids claiming benefits or are they just living at home with mum and dad at no cost to the state, other than not being taxable individuals. My kids lived at home with me before uni and work, all came from the bank of mum and dad, and part time work until they went full time or left home.

We aren't fabricating the numbers of foreigners in lower paid jobs such as barristas, waiters, distribution centre workers for the big retailers / supermarkets, Taxi drivers and also the more skilled in the NHS etc ...

What are you on about now, I thought the article was about young people, I assumed non migrant/refugee, British kids?

If we have migrant workers, that don't mean that British kids are sitting on their arses doing nothing ffs.

Maybe the kids are doing nowt, but i've not seen them in that light, hence why I challenge it. I thought kids today were quite active in being at school, uni or work.

I’d imagine it varies a lot regionally and it’s mostly in places like Liverpool and Wales.

I've worked for one of the biggest retailers in the UK and as part of my role visited huge distribution centres ... Spoke to the managers there who told me that entire shifts (there were 3 a day) were staffed by (then) young Europeans ... when questioned further they told me that they couldn't get British youths (workers) for the money they were paying ...

My local Cafe Nero is predominantly staffed by foreign kids who are actually earning some spending money whilst at University here ...

I get your point mate, but it still don't mean the kids are out of work just because they don't want to do them jobs. It would be like someone offering your daughters that work.

As a Welsh Liverpool fan I can't say I'm happy with that comment, no Christmas present for you this year.

Oh I agree ... but I'm also a firm believer in people putting something in rather than just taking from the system ...

That doesn't just mean paying in via taxes ... if you're genuinely out of work do something else whilst you're looking - community service, volunteering, charity stuff ...

****ers that irritate me are those happy to sit on their arses playing video games, smoking tabs and drinking cheap booze whilst they wait for the next Giro...

I just think it's a cheap shot at the kids, I don't even believe it is 1M but not going to get bogged down in figures so will just accept the numbers. Are they really playing video games, having cheap ***s and booze, I've honestly not seen any of that and I hate fooking people drinking out of a can (alcohol) in the street, so would certainly remember if I saw it. As BWood said maybe it's a regional thing. Also just because migrant students are taking jobs, don't mean the local British kids are doing nowt, they might have a better paid part-time job. Why do we always look to blame those at the lower end of the ladder all the time, that's something the Tories did.

Ffs Fosse <laugh> I would like to think we have moved on in the last four decades lol.

Not meaning you mate, but there is so much negativity about at the mo, it just pisses me off, too much hate, always looking to blame someone, and this only ever suits those in power, and that's not a swipe at Labour either. I think Piskie calls it rule and divide or something, I'm sure someone will correct me.
