Here we go again, 'rugby league city' my arse. Why do they always have to get one over football and Hull City? HKR have had one good season, and won sod all, but now we are a 'rugby league city', suppose its one up from a rugby town, which they used to call us when the RL clubs were at the top of their twelve club league and City were struggling at the wrong end of our 92 club league. Its an odd claim when City are averaging over 20,000 at home and Rovers are boasting about breaking through the 10,000 barrier for the first time in their history. But what do we expect?
Brentford's cost around 70 a few years ago and I'm guessing that would be the size and spec for Hull... So a bit cheaper as that includes the London construction weighting costs and maybe land(?). The KC was hugely overpriced at the time and should have been nearer half what the final cost was.
They fall for it too. The rugby forums don’t have huge threads dedicated to Hull City. I find it quite embarrassing to be honest.
Mitigating factor there is that we have massive threads for everything nowadays for some reason. We almost never start new ones.
The size they were after was nowhere near the size of the MKM. 12k sell outs in a smaller stadium that has 365 financial generation is a far better prospect for a club the size of Hull FC than shelling out a million quid a year to play in a stadium they get no return from.
People choose not to remember the early 80s when FC and Rervers were power houses of rugby league. I remember going to Boothferry Park when City played Hartlepool and Les Mutrie scored four. The gate was about 3000.
I think you will find there is very little City content on this board. It is full of inane drivel. Remove nonsense about cooking and what grinds my gears etc and there is scant City input
I've always struggled with the idea we're a rugby town. We have two RL teams in the top division, and a football team in the second tier. Only once in the last three seasons have the combined attendances for the RL exceeded City's. Rugby town my arse. Year Hull FC KR Tot RL City 2022 10763 7788 18551 17973 2023 12355 8770 21125 21980 2024 10975 9883 20858 21471 (City's number being for season starting that year)
Considering Rugby Leagues doesn't matter that much there's a lot of talk about it right now. As far as the RL thread is concerned like any thread you're not interested in, don't read the bugger, simple. I don't get why a RL thread is embarassing on a City site, there's plenty of other threads that have nothing to do with City. Chill out FFS, no one is dying over a thread.
I'm pretty sure there will be plenty of years in which they outnumber City quite comfortably though. Only going back 3 years knowing there has been a big lift in City attendances since Acun took over is a bit unfair to the Rugby side of the argument.
I don't think Willie Peters meant it as in RL is bigger than football. I think he just meant that he loves being here as it's a City where RL is loved by many, 2 teams, etc, as opposed to some City's and towns where it really is a minority sport. BUT, and this is the big but, as usual HDM absolutely jump on the literal words to yet again make out it's a RL City as in ahead of football. It isn't, not by a long way. But yes, a lot of people in Hull (and the outskirts) love their RL.
People choose not to remember the late 70's when Fc and Revers were not power ( snigger) houses of RL and Fc played in front of 880 at the Boulevard v Huyton, Rovers had never had a five figure crowd at the old Craven Park, and if they could attract 3,000 for the Hull derby they thought they'd hit the jackpot. Fc cancelled one home game v Batley at half time ( they just happened to be losing) because the kit was muddy and they didn't have a change of kit for the second half, power house of RL?. None of the 'rugby town/city' advocates have ever explained to my why all the top attendances for sport in this city have been for football and involve Hull City playing. Over to you Mister 5hitstirrer........
