Guy made a racist comment about how all Koreans look the same… not sure have much grounds for appeal there
I don't think so either. 7 games seems harsh and they must have used some sort of formula to work it out but he apologised to Son immediately and had his apology accepted Immediately which doesn't mean it was alright for him to use a racist joke but how many missed games 'pays the debt'?
Before any game players always kneel down and say " No room for racism". He must have forgotten this.
There's no doubt what he said was racist and I'm not excusing it at all. Missing games is a good and appropriate deterrent. I'm just questioning the number of games needed. I just looked up the sanctions and the minimum is 6 games, maximum 12. In this particular case, given the immediate remorse, the lack of aggression or hate in the joke and the 'target' of the abuse almost dismissing it, I think the minimum punishment would have sufficed.
What happens if a joey Barton type stubs a cigar out on a team mates face cos they are the wrong colour or nationality. The fsct it's a team.mate doesn't excuse the issue under the fa's rules It's still a hate crime under legislation. If you were heard in the street laughing with their Korean mate shouting the odds about all you look the same then the police could well arrest you under the same laws The guy is lucky the police have not got involved tbh. Spurs are basically appealing and going down the square rabbit hole
Spurs are going to miss some important games including that of Liverpool if the ban is upheld: I think that worries them.
I thought he said "they're all the same" If so, no mention of looks in there. I could be wrong though with what he said though
It’s the perception with a lot of these things. Yeah it’s a mate and it seems harsh in that context, but footballers rightly or wrongly are role models. Things they say, kids hear and if there’s no punishment, may think it’s fine, do similar at school to kids they aren’t mates with and offend people etc n
In the media interview in question, asked by a presenter for a Tottenham shirt, Bentancur replied: "Sonny's? It could be Sonny's cousin too as they all look the same."
"They are all the same," not identical twins but in a aderogatory manner. Should read between the lines.
It's casual racism that if you allow it then you encourage it. So this is one where you suck it up. We made a big mistake deciding suarez couldn't have said it cos it was against a Manc. But again John terry. So this is a case of another easy target to slap a big ban on so they have done so.
I don't think anyone is suggesting that there shouldn't be a punishment. As for schoolchildren, a 9 year old was reported to the police by his school who then came out to speak to him in school. What for? Telling a classmate that they smelled like fish.
He didn't say 'they all look the same'. He said 'they are all the same'. The implication is obvious though.
