Good Morning. It's Thursday 21st November, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Where do Leeds need to strengthen in January

As Christmas draws near, Leeds fans face an anxious wait as to whether the Elland Road hierarchy plan to bring in reinforcements, come the New Year!

With talents like James McAtee and David Brooks on offer, the Whites could drastically improve their creative output and provide a different dimension to their attacking play. They may also look to bolster their striking options too.

Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph have eight goals between them this season, with double that number divided between Aaronson (4), Ramazani (3), James, Gnonto, Struijk and Bogle (all 2), not forgetting Firpo's strike against Sunderland.

Whilst Southampton and Ipswich invested heavily last January, Leeds didn't. Four wins from their final eleven games last season tells it's own story, as to why Daniel Farke's men are still in the Championship. How many players would you like to see Daniel Farke bring in, in January?

Could Leeds bid for automatic promotion be hampered by Internationals

The Nations League/International friendlies on top of a 46 game Championship season (plus Cup games) could prove costly for the Whites this season.

Fourteen of Leeds twenty-three man squad are regular Internationals, with most (apart from Crew and Chambers) playing regular Nations League/International friendlies on a consistent basis. Whilst not unique to Leeds, they benefit from having the most expensive squad in the Championship.

It therefor goes without saying, that they would have more players away on International duty this season than other clubs in the second tier of English football! 5000 minutes of game time was too much for several players last season, as obvious signs of fatigue began to set in, around the beginning of April.

Substitutions, and player rotations don't feature heavily on Daniel Farke's agenda. Have Leeds learnt from their lessons of last season?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Wober leave in January, so another CB will be crucial. The hardest position to fill will be a number 9, Bamford is ****ed, Joseph needs more time and Piroe isn't a 9, to bring one in though I think the club would possibly need Bamford to leave.

Morning all. Thank god the real football is back. The only thing worse than the dreadful international games was Sky trying to force feed women’s soccer. It’s just not for me I’m afraid.

    Afternoon all

For a striker, we need someone who will be PL ready at the end of the season, that is going to be a tough one and it won't come cheap.

Liam Delap if Ipswich go. Would also have loved to have gone for the no. 2 keeper at Liverpool but sounds like Chelsea now want him.

I just think we need a couple of loans. We don't have to go crazy in spending money save it for the future. I personally think this squad is nailed on for top 6 and I'm very confident its a top 2 side due to the shyte around in this league this season. as for help or additions I've said it before but I'd like to see some height and muscle not just that alone. but, we need some nuisance we are still very easily pushed off the ball and lack height and Braun in set piece situations. a couple of players teams have to worry about on set pieces etc and someone who doesn't get knocked off the ball with ease like many of our attacking players do. as at the moment every team know we aren't scoring with our heads. We try to walk the ball into the net all game we have to mix it up last 20 mins sometimes when things aren't working and pop some balls in the box aerially as its all one dimension at the moment.

Well ChatGPT has predicted that we are going to sell Summerville and Archie Gray in the January transfer window. Also suggested that we may be interested in Sam Curtis from St Patrick's Athletic (He joined Sheff Utd in January 2024 and is presently on loan at Peterborough)

    General Observations
    • Leeds’ actions in the 2025 window will depend on their Championship standing or Premier League status. If firmly in promotion contention, they’ll focus on retaining top talent and adding experienced players to ensure squad depth.
    • A mix of strategic loans and permanent signings will likely be the approach, emphasizing financial prudence and long-term planning.
While the specific targets might change, Leeds United’s focus will remain on balancing immediate squad needs with safeguarding their young talents.

However Google Gemini suggested that if we are challenging for promotion we may look to sign Joel Piroe from Leeds United ??? or even Bristol City's Alex Scott ( Presumably Gemini hasnt realised that he joined Bournemouth for £20m in August 2023). On the outgoing front they have suggested Bamford to Wrexham, and that we may also release Poveda and Klich to free up some wages.

However Gemini also says that if we are struggling in the Championship come January 2025, then we may look to sign Millwalls' Tom Bradshaw, and Middlesborough's Ashley Fletcher (Fletcher left Boro in July 2021, and has since played for Watford, New York, Wigan, Sheff Wed and joined Blackpool on a free transfer at the start of this season). In addition we may look to sell fringe players such as Rodrigo, and Jack Harrison

    Other factors to consider:

    • Financial situation: Leeds' financial situation will dictate the type of deals they can pursue.
    • Managerial preferences: Daniel Farke's preferred style of play will influence the types of players he targets.
    • Player valuations: The valuations of players can fluctuate, affecting the feasibility of certain deals.

God help us if AI ever manages to take over the world :emoticon-0102-bigsm
