Losses six times greater than revenue, never mind. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
I'm sure they're trousering plenty from their adverts. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Losses 6 times income - most of their audience is over 55 - now if it was GBeebies it might actually have a chance of turning a future profit - but we all know they're not subsidised by hedgefunders to actually break even, don't we...
Just looked him up and have to say that one completely passed me by in terms of clubs in crisis thanks to dodgy owners
By all accounts he was a really good guy though and was good with the supporters. He used to do a competition where you could win the chance to sit in his Directors Box. He was also the person responsible for the stupid fees being spent in the Championship. He tried to sign Abel for £20m and then signed Kodjia for a fortune.
We’ve been sponsored by multiple companies accused of operating or enabling illegal betting in Türkiye while Acun has been owner. Both Jeton (e-Wallet partner in 2022) and Sportsbet.io (shorts sponsor from 2024) have faced allegations prior to them becoming sponsors. For what it’s worth, Sportsbet.io isn’t licensed to operate in the UK, so that deal has to be targeting overseas audiences. Its reviews largely paint it as a scam business. The reviews for Jeton are the same too. I can see why people are annoyed as it seems Acun doesn’t have any issues building relationships with controversial business partners he probably shouldn’t.
I don't think that's the main reason, let's say that Turkish people are insensitive to corruption (or forced to be insensitive), compared to all other things going on in country and Acun will probably get a very small fine or may be no punishment at all. Problem is Acun stirred the cauldron by starting accusing others doing shady bet deals while he was doing same thing with his TV and Hull, that was the reason of backlash. As usual he just couldn't keep his mouth shut.
Is everything in Turkey seen through the lens of which football team you support or are associated with ?
As Plum said, it is same for all Mediterranean countries I suppose, remember 3Fs of Portuguese, football-fado-fatima. I think Spain and Italy is pretty similar, may be less hardcore but you know Berlusconi was pretty similar figure like Acun, media mogul, rich and involved in politics. In Turkey football is a good tool to reach mass crowd for both for opposition and government, because since 2016 coup attempt, gatherings, strikes, protests are not allowed. So if you need to protest or opposite, it is a legit crowd to manipulate, there are political slogans at stadiums every week, from Palestine to woman rights. But it is hard to associate clubs with one side, it mostly stupid claims of clubs to make people hate each other. For example, Fenerbahce considered opposition, but we know president close to coalition partner and vice president Acun close to Erdogan himself. Narrative and reality usually don't match.
