Just seen that it was suicide. Horrible, just horrible. You just feel so helpless when someone does that, what a waste.

Severe depression caused a previous suicide attempt in 2022. I had a very good French friend here in the Philippines who ended it all nearly two years ago. No matter how his friends, and he had quite a few, encouraged him he could not overcome that horrible thing that is depression.

Sol Bamba, the former Leeds United, Leicester City, Cardiff City and Hibernian defender, has died at the age of 39.

The Ivory Coast centre-back, who began his career with Paris St-Germain and also played for Dunfermline and Middlesbrough, was part of the Cardiff side that won promotion to the Premier League in 2018.

He overcame non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2021 during his playing days at Cardiff and had been working at Turkish club Adanaspor, who announced the news on Saturday night.

Ron Yeats, the first Liverpool captain to lift the FA Cup, has died at the age of 86, the club announced on Saturday.

The Aberdeen-born centre-back - who manager Bill Shankly famously invited journalists to "take a walk around him, he's a colossus" at his unveiling at Anfield - had been living with Alzheimer's disease in recent years.

Yeats was signed from Dundee United in July 1961 by Shankly and made 454 appearances over more than a decade at Anfield, scoring 16 goals.

    Great player RIP Ron<rose><rose><rose>

I have just read that the Bristol City Head Coach has had to take leave because of the death of his baby son. Death is always difficult to cope with but the anguish of losing a young child must be indescribable. RIP little fella and keep strong Dad - the rest of the family need you.

Actor Timothy West has died peacefully in his sleep aged 90, "with his friends and family at the end".

He was known for many roles in television and the theatre, including popular soaps Coronation Street and EastEnders.

Husband to Prunella Scales - who played Sybil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers - the pair travelled together on UK and overseas canals in the Channel 4 series Great Canal Journeys.

His children Juliet, Samuel and Joseph West said in a statement issued by his agent: "After a long and extraordinary life on and off the stage, our darling father Timothy West died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening. He was 90 years old.

    Great actor. RIP Timothy <rose><rose><rose>

John Prescott. He managed to get to the top from the bottom without losing any of his principles. An inspiration to all of us who had the pleasure to meet him. If he has gone upstairs he is already signing the Angels up to a Trade Union. RIP

Obviously I know him from his time as an MP, but saw a documentary he did a few years ago about food factories in Yorkshire making different cheeses, it was fascinating. I might not have agreed with him on some of his politics, but he was a principled man and I feel he genuinely wanted to help the common man. RIP

Former world snooker champion Terry Griffiths has died aged 77 after a long battle with dementia, his family has confirmed.

Griffiths, from south Wales, came through the qualifying rounds to win the 1979 Crucible title as a qualifier, and also won the Masters and the UK Championship to complete the sport’s illustrious ‘triple crown’.

In later years, Griffiths became an accomplished coach, inspiring the likes of Stephen Hendry, Mark Williams and Mark Allen.

    True gentleman and outstanding player.
    RIP Terry <rose><rose><rose>

George Eastham, a member of England's 1966 World Cup-winning squad, has died aged 88.

The Blackpool-born forward made 19 international appearances and, while he was part of manager Sir Alf Ramsey's squad at the World Cup 58 years ago, he did not play as England won it for the only time in their history.

He was also an unused squad member at the 1962 World Cup and went on to make his England debut in an FA Centenary match against Brazil at Wembley in 1963. His last appearance was in 2-0 friendly win over Denmark before the 1966 World Cup.

Only the 11 players that started the final against West Germany in 1966 were initially awarded winners' medals but, following a campaign, Eastham and other squad members - and Ramsey - received medals in 2009.

Saw him play a few times, exceptional player, and a man who pioneered for the players rights in the 60s

    RIP George <rose><rose><rose>

As you say Bure, George was an exceptional player whose international career was limited by the other talent in the squad. Shows how times have changed when you realise that he got a transfer from Newcastle because the Club house supplied and rented from the Club was not satisfactory for his family. Most of our Club houses were in Sprowston and the players used to drink in the Beehive in Cannerby Lane - one of many Pubs I used in those days. Charlie Crickmore was in there every night until Ron Saunders arrived. The first day back after Saunders arrived I can still readily recall Charlie limping in and saying - I won't be in any more lads - the bastard is going to f*cking well kills us - and we never saw him or any of the players ever again. How times have changed!!!

Former Manchester City captain Tony Book has died at the age of 90.

One of the most successful players in the club's golden era of the late 1960s and early 1970s, Book won domestic and European honours as a player and a manager.

He began wearing the armband in 1967 and led the club to the First Division title in 1968, the FA Cup in 1969 and the double success of the League Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup a year later.

Book moved into management in 1974 and guided City to a further League Cup triumph in 1976. He was in charge until 1979.
    True legend, RIP Tony <rose><rose><rose>
