Yes of course it will end up that way. But right now, it isn’t. And that’s suits some people better.

I don’t have a problem with ads especially on a free app. Pre-Musk Twitter had them. It’s the combination of them being cranked up to 11 amongst other factors that are driving people away I feel.

I've prowled around city social media for the best part of 30 years now, taken a dayly skeg at it for half my life, from the rudimentary fanzine messageboards in the 90's to today's platforms and I probable feel the most connected with the current city twitterati. City are strong on twitter. There are some excellent accounts covering memorabilia, early history, HullCityKits, Southern supporters, Boothferry Park memories, HCST, Tigers Trust, TigerTat, 1904club, podcasts, Deano's wellbeing vids, ex players, Brian Horton loves interacting etc. Plus the club's reliably prompt match day posts.
I don't want to see this network fragment. I see the ads thing like Boothferry Park, magnificent and advert free in the 60's & 70's, by the end it had no North Stand and a restricted Kempton with garish advertising billboards all over the crumbling terraces but hardcore City fans still went! No one complained about the ads. Bluesky is merely a North Ferriby United, a nice cosy ground down the road used by a handful of ex-city fans still exiled from the Allam days. I just can't see bluesky replicating the breadth of good city accounts we have on twitter?

I'm surprised more regular posters on here don't have the same appreciation of City twitter? UTT.

Heard this on the radio yesterday and online today .... 'The Bluesky social media platform that is growing rapidly after Donald Trump’s U.S. election victory has announced it is dealing with a large spike in spam, harmful content, and scams. “In the past 24 hours, we have received more than 42,000 reports (an all-time high for one day)".' Good luck to those looking for a new cesspit!
Only problem is they don't have the resources & infrastructure to tackle these things. Q adverts and / or fees.
Do people really need yet another platform to waste more time on.
p.s. of course, it's only pure coincidence that it is growing rapidy after Trump's victory. Nothing political going on here, just pure coincidence.

It is, he was bought out because the people who were running it thought he was a useless flap of skin. He bought Tesla and then proceeded to produce possibly the worst car ever and promised a sports car that never actually arrived.

I've disliked him for years, he's a charlatan and has been for as long as he's been a public figure. His recent political direction is just the pattern people like him follow, as inevitable as the setting of the Sun. Russell Brand springs to mind.

    Alphabet people?

Is that who we are? Come on man, be better. Bad enough having to deal with people who actually despise us, don't pretend to.

I recommend people read 'Stolen Focus' by Johann Hari. I did and haven't bothered with social media since. My life is a million times better without that rubbish in it. I think I would say this forum is probably the next to go.

Yoh have to ask yourself, especially when your life is already very busy 'why the frig do I care what John on Bransholme thinks about Tim Walter' or 'what does Derek in Rotherham think about Donald Trump'.

I actually think forums are great and far superior to any other social media

Someones message doesnt essentially dissappear if its not well liked

    Twitter etc all about likes
Which creates echo chambers of one sided views
I like reddit for reading random stuff and seeing cool photos etc
But its the same, downvoted means your comment basically disappears

Cant beat a good old forum
Shame theyre a not really a thing these days

I agree, I like seeing different views and comments, it's what sparks conversation and the idea that something not popular is pushed down the page is a bit ****.

I hate to break it to you, but this website is a form of social media.

Could be my next audiobook listen :emoticon-0148-yes:
Isn't it all about commonsense and balance though? The internet (or mobiles, social media, knives, possessions, cars, .......) can be wonderful, but misused or overdone can be horrendous. I guess most of us struggle though with applying commonsense and maintaining balance (no, not meaning standing on one leg). Even though I have strong minimalist tendencies, I don't see the answer is in totally discarding such things ... but maybe I'll change my mind after listening to that book?

Think it depends on where you access Twitter. I tend to read it on a laptop, it defaults to Following and my ad blocker stops the ad tweets from appearing. On my phone I can't stop the annoying ads although they aren't plentiful enough to be more than a mild annoyance, but the default for Following/For You will always be what I last used, so it's always Following. There's no doubt that Twitter has got more difficult to use, more irritating in its design, and more biased towards serving up the kind of nonsense that feeds Musk's ego, but I still find it useable for following people who post stuff of interest.

I think you're doing him a disservice regarding his business achievements. He bought into Tesla about 6 months after creation and has guided the company to become nearly a trillion dollars in worth and selling two of the most sold cars in the world... He could have sold out at any point along the way. There's other investments, hundreds of them, that are in the pipeline.

I do, however, agree with you on his need to be in the limelight and now heavily involved in politics. I assume it's to secure tax advantages and political support for his creations.

I absolutely despise ads and will happy pay extra in anything I can not ti see them, YouTube premium, Amazon ad free, Disney, netflix ( do they have ads? ) I pay extra on them all to be ad free....but the little I flick through twitter, they've never really bothered me as I just scroll past, it's possibly because I use it so little though that it hasn't bothered me

There was never any doubt in my mind that this thread would become embroiled in politics.Let's face it,everyone involves themselves in it nowadays(for what reason I'm ****ed if I know). It's Left v Right or Right v Left in just about every topic brought up nowadays...

Best looking after no1 these days, none of the World leaders give 2 ****s about any of us and anyone who thinks they do is deluded.

I'm a great believer in the old one liner....Under Capitalism, man exploits man.Under Communism,it's just the opposite.
