Hmmn. Your world is, or at least your own personal choices in how you use Twitter, are very different to mine then.

It takes literally 1 second to select 'Following', and then it stays with that selection (including when you close and re-open).
It's perfectly possible, and easy to avoid the nutters. If someone chooses to follow you who you don't want following you, just press block (another 1 second). If you see the odd post, just ignore it. Like there aren't nutters on here eh.
There are no "mountains of Bitcoin, Crypto, Shien, other '****e' ads ..... " to scroll through ... unless maybe you've searched for those sort of things and it's trying to be helpful, and you have it set to 'For You' and I can only think that YOU CHOOSE to follow hundreds, maybe even more, rather than a small selection of carefully curated worth following people or organisations, and you keep with 'For You'. In which case, that's all down to you.

As I said, it all depends how YOU want / choose to use it. I use it regularly every single day, on mobile, tablet and desktop, and have virtually none of the issues you mention, with minimal, perfectly acceptable 'distractions' that are easy to avoid. I typically follow about 30 people / groups. I suspect your issues are of your making through your choices, not Twitters.

But then some are now very up for trashing Twitter whilst pushing Bluesky (for reasons already touched on). I aren't.

If you can read threads on Twitter without having to wade through posts by bots posting unrelated content for clicks and ads for stupid games (despite community notes constantly telling you they’re a scam) then you should write a book to tell everyone else how to.
You’re the one person that’s cracked the algorithm because I don’t know anyone else who manages to use it as successfully as you.
And as for only using it for the people you follow, the reason is used to be good was that you could use ‘for you’ and find people you didn’t know existed whose content was interesting.
Now it’s just like reading the pile of paper leaflets that used to come in free papers, with a smattering of political pushing and porn thrown in for good measure.

Oh and if you use twitter to only follow 30 people you might be better using the phone to ring them up instead…

I have never searched any of those things, I despise Temu and Shein and have never had any interest in Bitcoin, I try to block them every time they appear, but to no avail.

As Dennis says, you should give everyone else lessons, mine defaults to For You every time and shows me loads of adds for same ****e games the same as Dennis is seeing.

I just looked and it seems I’m following 324, though I doubt more than 100 of them are actually active.

Ok, so sounds like I was right with my assumptions!
How the **** does anyone have the time, energy, interest, .... to follow hundreds (even thousands). Answer, you can't, and if you are trying to then it's at the expense of things that are way more important.
I've posted before how it's so easy to get a fill of differing and opposing views and information. And it's not by 'following' (!!) hundreds, or thousands, on social media ("oh look at me ..."). That's just ******ed. We waste enough time as it is on here!
But each to their own. Crack on if you are happy. Just don't spout bollox about things ignoring the FACT that it's purely down to personal choices determining what you get, not the things itself. (yes, I know it wasn't you DBT specifically but you ramped it up with sarcasm).
I've challenged the imo ridiculously, dramatised one-sided narrative and explained that, imho, it doesn't have to be anything like it was being portrayed an shared how I use it and get value from it. I'll leave it at that.

It used to be funny for reading unhinged opinions about Brexit and trump around 2016 (of all sides of the argument). Then I jacked it in as was wasting too much time anyway.

    Ok
    I’m ’spouting bollocks’
However. ‘Following’ someone on SM doesn’t mean most users actually read everything, or even anything, they post. It can also be used to simply have contact with that person if you need to actually get in touch with them at some point.
Maybe if you do only follow 30 people you won’t get as much ****e popping up. I’ve no idea.
The ‘narrative’ that you think is one sided is simply that a few years ago you could follow considerably more people than 30 (you’re not a usual user as on average people follow 700+ people, but in actual fact only spend 30 mins a day on it so clearly don’t read everything the people they follow tweet) without getting pop ups, ads, comments from bots etc…and now you can’t. Simple as that.
If you only use it to connect with less people than a single decker bus maybe it still works (although I think a WhatsApp group
would be more useful for that) but if the average user did only follow 30 people it wouldn’t have lasted very long in the first place.

I haven't signed up for BlueSky as I don't really have a need to, I have Whatsapp for my mates and I occasionally use Reddit for other stuff. I deleted my Twitter account when Elon bought it.

The second he claimed to be a "free speech absolutist", I knew exactly what he meant and sacked it off.

It's the reason why so many young people feel connected to said billionaires, they think that because they share a social space with them it somehow makes them relatable.

Musk hasn't ever actually done anything worthwhile and the stuff he runs generally turns to **** pretty quickly unless competent people are there to guide it.

His Cybertruck is a disaster, it isn't even safe enough to buy in the UK or the EU (not that any sane person would) and it looks like the car Homer Simpson designed for his brother's company.

Why anybody would want to be associated with that clown, outside of his wealth, is beyond me.

You can play it down to personal experience but the constant ads are a frequent experience for most going onto twitter. I’m now getting where I’m scrolling the feed and it will kick me back with an ad or two meaning I’m having to re-scroll.

There was literally a meme a couple weeks ago centred around some god awful pig T-shirt that temu was aggressively posting.

People saying Bluesky can't do what Twitter does when it comes to instant news from reliable sources seem to have things backwards.

I'm sure you dislike him for political reasons...but done nothing!

I'm sure his merger to then become PayPal is nothing. His then acquisition of Telsa then became nothing.

I think he is in the "those who can" camp...you probably know the rest toasty.

There are 415 million X users (Statista data).

X itself estimates 5% are bots. Independent studies have found between 10 and 20% bot activity - so the range is from just short of 21million to 83 million bot accounts. I just don’t want to share a space with this level of manipulation so have headed to Bluesky.

I enjoy my instant Saturday line-ups from X but in future will have to wait 5 minutes more. St Pauli, Plymouth and Torquay have been the first clubs to join bluesky and as the number of users approach 20million (majority UK and USA) I think more clubs will add an account.

Apparently some co-founders of Twitter. Jay Graber is one of them, another left in May of this year.

I believe it was set up in response to the direction Twitter was taking so hopefully not going down the same path!

It'll end up full of ads etc just like twitter, people will complain and something new will come along and everyone will move there claiming it to be the new place to be etc.... it happens every time with social media platforms
