A famous historic night . https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...uefa-cup-debut-fc-kaiserslautern-1983-photos/
We drew lots at work to see who could go: I lost so stayed home but was assured of the next opportunity. Romania and Bulgaria were next up and that kyboshed that. Mrs Fez and I are booked on a Danube cruise for next year, health permitting... given the state of that part of the world it's entirely feasible that we won't get there anyway!
OTD in 2016 I don't remember Zuniga doing very much for us after this game - but what an inspired substitution...
Am pretty sure that was Scott Loach's League debut for us too - poor sod. He had two or three good seasons with us then it all went downhill for him.
A cold, wet and windy day up here today - but watching this certainly warmed me up quickly. Some nice words from George Best right at the very end too...
A day when Elton wasn't the only musical star at the Vic. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/24694290.elton-john-rod-stewart-watford-fc-50-years-ago/
That was a good watch, how young Elton and GT looked, the state of the pitches that early in the season and Ian Boltons goal against Norwich, I was at all of those games, magic time and most of Tyler players were from the Academy I alway liked George Best as a player and a pundit, such a shame he fell foul of the drinking culture in those days
Sure some of you will remember how the Vic was. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/24702427.watfords-vicarage-road-viewed-floodlight-1974/
A new book about the 1968/69 promotion season. I can't decide whether to order it myself or send the link to my wife as a Xmas hint... https://thewatfordtreasury.com/blogs/news/champions
The ground was a total mess. How different today. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...fJhS83Arq4rZZ-4FBg_aem_zqUko_Kx-fw0poRo1nUrjA
I was at that game, brilliant atmosphere, we all thought well thats that when the penalty was saved but Endean brought the house down when he scored
I was probably standing next to you... I read later about trouble at the match, but I was right behind their goal, standing next to the Swindon fans, and didn't notice any. Just a lot of banter...
