We should have sacked him after our 5 game losing run in the Champ then, he was t up to it then either
Must say, not sure what you’re clinging on to here. Agreed that potentially we could be in the same situation under any manager, but potentially is the key word there. We’re definitely there with Russ, and it’s not good.
The thing is Martin's teams have always conceded lots of goals. Every single season he's been a manager without fail and it doesn't look like improving. We're also in a position where we don't have many goals in our squad which puts us in the terrible situation of can't score, can't defend. If Martin were to stay how many more clean sheets would we manage for the entire season? 2-3 maybe? Tops I'd say. So that puts us in the position where we'll need to score at least twice to win the vast majority of our games. Something we've managed only once in eleven so far. I just don't see any way that he can turn it around taking all of this into account.
Hypothetical now, if we had sacked him then, we wouldn't have had Wembley, but maybe direct promotion? We will never know, we may have got someone as bad as the previous three? We still might get another turkey, be careful what you wish for.
I honestly think they’ve decided to stick with him . Even if , as seems likely , we get relegated. Not saying that’s what I want to happen , but that’s what I think .
Probably been mentioned before but the Daily Echo understands Saints were reluctant to part ways with another manager given the disaster that followed during the 2022/23 campaign. A source suggested it could cost up to £12million to terminate the deals of Martin and all his staff and hire replacements when finances are already limited.
Absolutely I was being Devils Advocate in response to a comment that we should have sacked him this season, after 5 losses
I felt that Sport Republic appeared to have got their act together last season but, with the departure of Jason Wilcox, it does seem to be a case of reverting to form. It is true that there is no guarantee that a new appointment would reverse our position yet getting a manager with Premiership pedigree is essential. I find it really annoying that last season seems to have been squandered. Cortese would not have been sentimental about Martin and would have binned in off by September. Losing to Wolves last week was the final straw for me. If we had won, I could see us turning things arounf yet the defeat seemed to underscore the fact that we will not get many points this season if Martin remains. The forty points for survival is probably impossible already and I am staggered that we are in November and nothing has been done to address the performances. We need someone like Koeman in charge to get us out of this mess.
