After an extremely harsh scoreline I thought I'd mention this lad's performance out there today.
Krul was obviously our man of the match stopping Sturridge on many occasions as he broke through our week defense and of course that Lampard penalty but another man in midfield was pulling the strings for many our attacks.
Mr Guthrie had a brilliant game, ever one of his passes was perfect and he made numerous interceptions leading to a few chances, a very effective player today.
This lad is still young too and will get better, glad he's coming through nicely and getting settled.
What did you think? It was a disappointing result, yes, but we can't let it get to us, there are a lot of positives to take out of this game.
Apart from Krul, was Guthers your MOTM?

Guthrie did well today. I think he has been doing a little better than Cabaye too!

Guthrie played great so I'd say him too. Cabaye was better than he has been recently, same with Ba - some nice touches. I thought Lovenkrands played well in the first half too.

I think Guthrie was good at what he does, but his role when playing is completely different from Tiote, and changes the responsibilities on others (predominately Cabaye), and so I think he playing instead of Tiote makes the team worse.

This! I think we've missed Tiote's combative approach in the centre, but of Cabaye and Guthrie in the games they've played together Guthries been the better performer for me.

He always goes for Hollywood passes and disrupts our rhythm. We don't keep the ball nearly as well with him in instead of Tiote. I think Cabaye's been better last two games.

    I agree he was brilliant.

The fact is we are is deep **** because Taylors injury is serious and colo might miss 2 games at least.

Guthrie looks very good playing with Cabaye, but Cabaye doesn't look the same player without Tiote.

Still got to be Tiote & Cabaye for me when they're both fit.

I see what you mean. Guthrie is much less of a defensive midfielder than Tiote.
I'd still have Cheik over Guthers though of course.

Makes me excited about Gosling too, we could have some nice options on our hands in the future!

I'd drop Cabaye for him at the minute when Tiote's back. Fact.

Exactly, Tiote is far more disruptive and influential defensively, but also, his patience and ball control allow for other players to move more off the ball and make runs, particularly Cabaye. But with Guthrie in the side, Cabaye and he split defensive duties (neither of which are as good as Tiote), but requires Cabaye to provide his distribution from farther back.
Tiote does a great job working as a bridge between the front and back lines, with Guthrie in the side, it all becomes a bit muddled.

    Couldn't disagree more.

Cast your mind back to Villa away. In the first half Cabaye didn't look great as he was asked to play a deeper role and limit his natural attacking instincts. However, in the second half he was given free reign to play higher up the pitch and he looked like a completely different player, pulled all the strings, and was very unlucky to score.

Fast-forward to the last five games. Tiote has been out and Guthrie has come in. In all those games Cabaye has had to sacrafice himself for the team and to allow Guthrie to play further up the pitch as Guthrie can't cover the DM role. Cabaye is wasted in DM, but we don't have a choice but to play him in that role at the moment. When Tiote is back, Tiote takes that role and Cabaye is back to pulling the strings.

Not saying that Guthrie hasn't done well, because he has. But we're losing arguable our most technically gifted player in Cabaye when he has to mop up in front of the back four.

Guthrie has been fantastic, no doubt. I'd still drop him for Tiote though. Cabaye-Tiote is a brilliant pairing. When Tiote isn't playing, Cabaye does more defensive work and isn't as involved going forward. When Tiote IS playing, he's brilliant going forward as there's less pressure. (See; Aston Villa)

This. Also AG he's ''hollywood passes'' have been on point today. 9/10 he his passes were brilliant and accurate. We may have a real quality deep-lying midfielder here. He's our own version of Xabi Alonso IMO.

Thinking me may have to give the 3 midfielders a go, can't just drop Guthrie for Tiote when he has been one of our outstanding players the last few games.
