Nice story, but if it was true, they wouldn't of rivetted them on, making the pockets almost impossible to remove.

Useless fact of the day - The original patent Levi's filed for the first denim jean in 1873 only had one back pocket, the second back pocket was added due to customer demand in 1901.

I know it's not the real reason but I am sure many on here will be able to relate to the story.
In fact I'm not sure if I'm being whooshed here, do you really think that anyone could believe the reason jeans have pockets is to make patches.

It’s a common story, you can even get instructions on how best to do it…

Thing is you don't even have to be tight or frugal to be more responsible with this. A lot of people could wear better quality clothes, spend less overall and have a less negative effect on the world if they'd just cut down on the amount they buy and the rate they get through it.

I've been known to cut out the piece of denim behind the pocket to make a patch.

Didn't some jeans back in the day (60's/70's) have a square of material tacked on the inside (for patching if needed)? Or am I losing it?

Fraying your jeans is stylistic, why would anyone patch it?

Much more recently one of the premium jean brands supplied a kit with each jean, it included a denim patch, sandpaper and instructions on how to distress them.

Didn't read all that, Eng on tv, but I'd guess Trump believes whatever he thinks he should believe to hang on to power.
