Tonight, I played my first competitive game of footy in about 7-8 years. Only 30 minute matches in a six-a-side league, I played about 15mins (we had eight players so rotating subs). I managed to clock up 1.67miles and got three assists but damn, I need to work on my fitness. Didn't help that they asked me to play in the middle mind
I play 5/6 a side every week, nothing serious just a kick about on Astro for 1 hour. I started playing indoor football once a week month or so ago, 2 hours indoor it’s a ****ing killer. The ball doesn’t go out so it just never stops. After about 20 mins I was blowing waiting for 5 min HT break. After 2/3 weeks it def got easier, no matter how much running or fitness work you do, nothing ever compares to actually playing with stop/start constant movement etc.
Yes, I sold his skin to a sports centre on the South coast. His innards I sold to the Old Traffird catering. (Genuinely hope he's ok.)
That's the reason I stopped playing. Over 30 leagues were all played indoors, and I'm not in good enough shape to play against teenagers and 20 y/os half my age outdoors. My knees have recovered after I stopped playing.
This. I had to stop a weekly 6 a side game on hard astro pitches after 12 years because me knees were just ****ed. I was literally hobbling for 5 days after and recovered just in time for the next game. My knees aren't as bad now, but I have arthritis in both of them, in my 40s.
Neck, knees and lower back ****ed playing in front row rugby union for 20 years but wouldn't swap it for not playing.
Played last night (not competitive), twisted and stretched for a ball, backs went FFS. Thought I'd be in more pain than I am this morning though
Keep moving... I've thrown my back out several times. First few times I thought, best to rest it, so Id try and stay still... But began to notice that after some movement I'd loosen up... After that, even though counter intuitive, I've forced myself to move, by whatever degree I am able and my recovery time is 1/5 of what it is when I try to rest.
They thought you were that bad? Seriously, you're just getting too old for it, mate. Time to take up tiddlywinks.
Got a **** back mate, since the car crash two years ago. Used to be able to stand still all day and not be bothered, now it hurts after 2-3mins. I'm alright when moving about, quicker the better, just twisted and felt it instantly. Just found it ironic that I played my first competitive games in about eight years on Sunday and was fine then I hurt my back at the non-competitive night
