Good Morning. It's Monday 11th November, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Unconvincing win keeps Leeds in the hunt Leeds kept pace with the top two in the Championship with an unconvincing 2-0 victory over relegation threatened Queens Park Rangers at the weekend. Since returning to the second tier of English football, the Whites have been tagged as the protagonists of the division; pushed forward on every possible occasion to showcase their talents in-front of the TV cameras, but perhaps not for much longer! Whilst dominating possession, Farke's lacklustre and somewhat awkward approach to games this season has even spread uneasiness within the supporters ranks and dampened the atmosphere around Elland Road. Opposing teams are more than happy to give Farke's men the Lions share of possession, then team up in numbers against them in the final third and take the ball off them. Add to the equation amateur dramatics (from the opposition), woeful finishing and more retreats than a weekend away at the Cotswolds - then you have a pretty good idea of a Leeds fans perspective of the 2024-25 Championship season thus far. As for the match, Arronson rattled the cross-bar early on, before Bogle doubled his tally for the season, smashing the ball into the roof of the net (19mins) at close range, after Rangers failed to clear their lines. The game was made safe deep into injury time when substitute Joel Piroe finally put the Hoops out of their misery. There are times that you have to show a 'gritty resolve', and 'grind out a win' - this was neither. We don't expect the free flowing inventive football we were treated to by Bielsa, but surely with the talent on view, we deserve a lot better than this! please log in to view this image Firpo denies headbutt but ban stands The Football Association have handed down a three-match ban to Junior Firpo following an incident during injury time in their 1-0 loss to Millwall last week. The violent conduct charge stems from an altercation where Firpo appeared to headbutt Millwall's Danny McNamara off the ball, an incident that went unnoticed by referee Leigh Doughty, but was captured on video. This suspension means Firpo will miss upcoming games against Swansea City and Luton Town. Despite denying the charge, an independent regulatory commission found the evidence against him to be proven, leading to the imposition of this suspension. His consistent performances have won over the Leeds fans, who only twelve months ago considered the 28yo surplus to requirements. In particular his attacking prowess down the left flank has become a vital part of Leeds distribution this season. please log in to view this image
Morning, Liability Firpo’s absence will hopefully allow Schmidt the opportunity to make the left back slot his own. He’s looked promising so far. Better than having Byram there continually cutting inside or passing backwards, which halts the flow of attacks down the left.
unconvincing: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/live/cr5mvm5ln9nt#MatchStats QPR got rolled by boro, but prior to that draws with Sunderland, Burnley and Coventry only saying
The real problem is that it isn't Bielsaball. Maybe a few should remember Warnockball, Christiansonball, Monkball, Hockadayball etc when we finished 15th every season with Bates/Cellino not paying any money out. The sense of entitlement amazes me every day.
Morning all. You can’t play free flowing, quick football if the other team are camped in their final third just hoping to catch you on the break. You have to keep possession and move the ball around in the hope of drawing them out of position. The alternative is to keep hitting balls into the box but we don’t have the forwards suited for that.
Morning all Wins and points are the most important thing at the moment. You’d think we had the quality to have wins along with high quality football, it’s when we have a bore fest and results don’t happen that Farke needs to worry I’ve accepted this is the way it will be whilst we have Farke, I just hope he manages promotion and the board have balls to replace him next season no matter what
Morning all. Got a brief glimpse yesterday of what next season could go along with. Wild celebrations as Ipswich beat spurs. Don’t blame them but that’s one of probably four or five wins which they’re entitled to celebrate. Just made me think will that be us next year
A good attack wins you games, a good defence wins you titles. I think the bloke who said that knew how to win titles.
It's like the pining for a fiery ex girlfriend... they remember the great sex at the beginning, and forget the bunny boiling at the end. Current girlfriend delivers everything you want, but just not sexy enough. Latin romance trumps teutonic efficiency and all that.
I suppose when it's all boiled down, it only matters to the 36k in the ground what kind of football is on show. The rest of us can choose to switch off our tv's or fall asleep or whatever. The atmosphere Im picking up from the tv is poor and now sounds about as good as most pl games. Still, its better to be playing poor stuff and be third in table than to be playing poor stuff and be in bottom half
I'm married to a German so I guess I'm all for teutonic efficiency. I was pissed when I did that too!
All I want to add is if we don't go up this season we never will. Personally think this is a weak league for a normal championship. the teams that have come down are championship standard. The teams that have come up will fill the bottom half of the table. as of the rest the only team I like the look of are Boro who on there day can play and hurt teams but have been very inconsistent so far. Personally think Sunderland won't have the legs to sustain a automatic challenge I've said it from the start and will stick to my guns. you will get the same teams around the playoffs Norwich,West Brom. There's nobody so far who we have played where I can go Christ they are a good team, I'm not being biased I truly believe that. Nobody has come to ER so far and had a go every team have played the same. Shyte frightened. men behind the ball looking for scraps and mistakes. in which quite a few have even done it on there own patch. Honestly hand on heart if we can't finish in the top 2 its a failure for me. not being big headed or speaking as a fan with my head in Leeds United blinkers. I just think this season its ours to lose.
I agree but I still find it hard to believe we took 12 points out of 12 from the top two, when they played each other, both games finished in a draw yet we still didn’t make the autos. We have a habit of allowing the pressure get to us at the vital stages, someone always comes with a late charge, we really need to string 3-4 wins together
