What he said was: That does not imply that they have handed them one before, just that they already have some and they're being given another. If I have a £10 note and someone hands me another - it doesn't mean that they must have handed me the first one. It's a cheap wind-up by Diego obviously, but not incorrect.
Apparently Opta have given us a 60% chance of winning the league. So more likely than not. That seems crazily high at this stage.
After this weekend, I feel confident we are favourites to be top for Xmas... As for after... Who knows, it's a long season and City have to remain as favourites for the title at 38 weeks. Think we'll be able to smile on Xmas day though.
I know. City's loss hands Arsenal a title, how? Where are Arsenal in the table again As I said, the statement was incorrect in every way.
Not incorrect at all linguistically. Factually it remains to be seen. As I said it was a cheap wum (it is Diego after all) but it quite clearly did not imply that City had handed Arsenal a title in the past.
You simply can't come to that conclusion at all from what was written. If you had no knowledge of football, it absolutely could imply that. You can only say that because you know that it hasn't happened in the past.
I'm just discussing the semantics, the wum went in one ear and out the other - metaphorically speaking.
I completely disagree, but quite frankly I've had enough of this conversation so I'll go away until it does.
Using your analogy, if someone gave you another £10 note, it could be either the only £10 they gave you (to add to the others you already had) or the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 20th ..... they had given you. You simply can't disagree with that. The surprise to me is that you gave Diego any credit for using facts/logic.
